Lonely Hike at Bukit Tabur East Side

Direction:
1. From MRR2 (Cheras-Kepong),keep left after pass by Zoo negara
2. Turn right at traffic light under the flyover
3. Go Straight until you reach a roundabout
4. Go straight at roundabout and you will see a mosque at your left
5. Turn right after the mosque
6. Go straight and turn into inner left road
7. Go down a bit and you can park your car at roadside

Situation:
1. Reach there around 1015am.
2. Weather is good and I'm alone for this hike (Not advisable)
3. First timer here and all info i have is from website(grateful)
4. Bring 2 liter water (Should bring at least 3 liter)
5. Scarf for sun burn protection and some snack (chocolate)
6. Bring along camera (faulty and plan to throw away after this)

First 30-40 minute is tough.
At Bukit Tabur West, you only need to pass the first 15 minute breath taking hike. Here at Tabur East you will going to prepare 30-40 minute uphill hike. At the very beginning of the trail you gonna get use your arm strength. Advice to really take a minute rest at first check point: Check point Tongkat Ali

40-60 Minute: You going do sweat a lot!

I was sweating heavily here. Its still a uphill hike but better than first 30 minute. I take a minute at puncak view check point.

60-75 minute: Boring yet the most difficult parts is just step away
This part started feel boring cause not much nice view and most of the view is already seen at Tabur West. Nothing special. Here we will go downhill and uphill again. Walk until you see a "mother of all hill" in front of you. That's will be the last climbing practice for the day.

5-15 minute rock climbing: That's what it all about Tabur East!!
Take a minute when you getting prepare to the rock climbing
As it will take average 5 - 10 minute, arm strength and mentality vital here.
At Tabur West, the so call most difficult part is really nothing compare here!

You on the top of the world!
After the rock climbing you will glad to see Malaysia Flag here, indicating you are standing top of the Bukit Tabur East. Yet don't expect much because here nothing to shout as the scenery is just normal. You can look back at Bukit Tabur West, KL view, natural forest view and Bukit Tabur Far East.
Yet do not stop at here because the best part is actually not end here!!

The last step of Tabur East
Walk further down heading Bukit Tabur far East. There is a trail leading nearer to Bukit Tabur far East part. Once you reach you will amaze by the nature beauty of the environment. The last step of footprint is ended here.
Be careful at here!! Once fall down is about 200 meter high!!

Going down is equal killing physical!!
Bukit tabur east is a one way trail. So you need to go back from where you started using same route. (there is another exit but not advisable)
My hand pain as the rock is very sharp and my leg are weaker when going down.For me it is more dangerous going back. So when you reach exit, you can choose to go waterfall near the entrance. water is cool and clear!

Hiking Bukit Tabur East takes me 2.5 hours from starting point to exit.
After Bukit Tabur East, i'm not planning to explore Bukit tabur far East to complete the whole Bukit tabur. I believe there is much more nature i wanna go explore out there. Gotta think where to go after this.

Hiking at Bukit Tabur West -Taman Melawati Kuala Lumpur

Bukit Tabur (Tabur Hill) is too famous and hardly need to be introduced. Hundred and thousand blogs and photo can easily be found on google. Below are some general fact about bukit tabur;

1. Bukit Tabur is also known as Bukit Hangus or Backbone dragon hill
2. Recorded as Worlds longest Crystal Quartz-Rich ridge (16 km)
3. One side is Klang gate Dam & Gombak Forest Reserve, Another side is Kuala Lumpur urban city view
4. Tabur Hill West is about 200 Meter above sea level
5. Hiking is about 3-4 hours to complete
6. Bukit Tabur is also one of the highest rated accident hiking venue.
(latest happened in September 2011)
7. Its a place of combination hiking (80%) and climbing (20%) experience

How to get there?

1. from MRR2 - Bukit jalil to Kepong
2. After zoo negara on your right, keep left to go under bridge (Go to Taman Melawati)
3. Turn right(Giant Taman Permata is on your left) and straight to the shop lot, school & housing area.
4. First roundabout, turn left
5. Meet 2nd round about, go straight
6. Meet a T-junction turn right
7. Tricky split road and small road is here
8. .......i also get lost here....
9. open mouth and ask people where is "Klang Gates dam" or Puncak Niaga facilities
(Quite a lot of people jogging around here)

Personal experience about hiking at Tabur Hill West.

1. Hiking at Tabur Hill West is not really that difficult. Ironically to general believe, Bukit Tabur is in fact one of the most enjoyable hiking venue. Because it offer combination of hiking and climbing experience, its give a lots of time for us to take breath and relax. For me the first 10-15 minute is the only place make us breathless.

2. Its dangerous when you are not careful and not respect the natural. Yes, Bukit tabur is one of the worst ever highest accident place I've ever come across. Death and serious injury are happen here. if you have hike the place, you will know why its really important for hiker to be cautious all the time and don't be fool to joke around. If the accident rate still going up, i believe its matter of time before the authority declare the hill is dangerous and prohibited public to access it.

I come across group of students about 12 people hiking the same place on that day. What irritated me is this group of people really do not know how to respect the mother nature. First their attire is really not suitable. second, in the group, boys are pretending as hero and girls are pretending victims all the way. (So you can imagine how long they stop others going through....as every inch of the movement being guild by the hero). thirds, every old folks will advice you not to shout, hard laughing or make noise in jungle.....All those general advice is basically overrule by this group.

3. For me there are 2 very dangerous spot. First is the famous number 9 checkpoint and the next one is after the check point 10. Really need some concentration to overcome it. Its just like going through Via ferrata experience. And this is also the most famous accident point.

4. The trail from entrance to check point 9 is easily identify. However after check point 10, the road to exit will be tricky. There are still about 2-3 small hill to climb before really heading to exit.

5. Exit from tabur hill is going through private fruits farm. Here just don't rush as its quite steep slope and slippery if rained. Its also will hurt your ankle if going too fast or wearing wrong shoe.

6. Once you see a hut, its indicate your hiking is almost complete..(There are Haagen Daaz ice cream advertising banner here!)

7. Total hiking time to complete...3 hours.

Hiking at Bukit Bangkong Tanah Hitam, Chemor, Perak

Direction:

1) From Jalan Besar sungai Siput-chemor
2) After BHp& Caltex petrol station, turn left at traffic light
3)by pass railway above and go straight till meet split road
4)Turn Right at split road(got signage to kampung tersusun tanah hitam)
5)Then turn left go into main entrance of kampung tanah hitam
6)Go straight by pass small kampung cina town
7) turn right when reach end and go straight
8) U should able to see the main parking (beside a swamp)
9) Free parking

Bukit Bangkong is one the most popular hiking spot in chemor. At about 200-300 meter, its offer a great view of chemor, kanthan, jelapang, etc view. If we come on early morning, you will have sea of mist to enjoy...

Most of the trail to Bukit Bangkong summit is tar road. (something like FRIM, kepong) Although it not very high, i experience some discomfort tense on leg due to the road surface. You can related the whole journey like walking at the water tank reserve at small hill where some area got very steep slopes.

At one junction, you can choose reach the summit using staircase or mix of jungle and tar road. We choose the longer trail when go up and staircase going down. Its take me(with kids) 3 hours to complete the hiking...unexpected.

Beside great view, i like bukit bangkong flora and fauna.

Lots of friendly people (old folks)and quite a number of Malays hiking at this place..(tanah Hitam is a chinese settlement village).

I was asked by a friendly couple veteran, is there any hiking place in sungai siput.... to avoid embarrass i quickly say Lion hill...but he know the place is not a hiker friendly venue. Than i say Bukit Sambanthan/Bukit Heawood.....he smile politely say, that's a oil palm plantation area.... i just manage to smile.

I serious believe lion hill should be converted become hiking venue for sungai siput folks. Its not really that dangerous if we have proper trail and proper safety equipment to reach the summit. This would serves as the best venue for 2-3 hours hiking. Hope it will happen.

After finish hiking, we go for a nice breakfast restaurant, Kedai Kopi Hee Seng. It located beside the primary school, in front basketball court and nearby main entrance. Its offer variety of dishes and its great choice to satisfied us after tired hiking.

Hiking (Walking) at Sungai Siput Heawood Garden hill - Taman Tun Sambanthan Hill

Sungai Siput is a place surrounded by mountain & hills. However it is a bitter fact that Sungai Siput do not have much choice for 2-3 hours hiking activities. You have can have either the famous lion Hill (which not suitable) or the plantation hill behind Taman heawood or Taman Tun Sambanthan. Well certainly you can choose the mountan at rasah, perlop, felda etc..but that will take overnight preparation.

As i not prepared to climb the lion hill again, i went to Heawood Garden Hill for a light walking. Before that I've already posted bout the changes undergoing at the entrance to the hill due to The northern Electrified Double Track project Ipoh to Padang Besar. Click Here

In University times, i used to practise my stamina here. I will run from the railway all the way to the middle part of the hills which about 200-300 Meter. Thats was long long time ago. Today i go with my son, my brother and his son.

Honestly, it is a very very boring walk. Not challenging at all and most of the time you just see oil palm tree. After bout 10-15 minute, you will have a choice to continue go up or turn right for 1st exit.

If we continue, it will another 5-10 minute to reach 2nd alternative exit. At this point you are most probably at 100-150 meter high. I took this exit.

However i had experience going up all the way until i reach the border between reserve forest and oil palm plantation. That is about 350-400 Meter. That's more satisfaction.

After take exit road, we will able to see some nice scenery of sungai siput gardens.

When reach the lowest road junction, you will notice got one indian temple. That temple is undergoing renovation. Its been exist for more than 20 years. Interesting is the temple committee had built up some statues. One of it is Cobra Snake.....

I have a bad experience with cobra snake at this hill. Back dated 15 years ago, while i was jogging, i didn't realise got a big 5-6 feet cobra snake laying beside the small road. As i approach the snake, it suddenly "jump" straight and make sound. It was about 3 feet from my leg only. Its gold & yellow color. Just like the statues. I was damn scare and quickly run back when the snake making its way to rubber tree..

Sungai Siput : Kampung Sungai Buloh -northern Electrified Double Track project (Part 2)

Recently i visit the place again and found out a huge overhead bridge being construct. I believe it is same project as the bukit sambanthan/bukit heawood...click here

The overhead bridge was too high and too many steep stairs. I doubt the residents will use the bridge to cross over by foot later. But Biker might find it okay as its biker friendly stuctural.

I was at sungai siput last week for my father regular check up matters. During evening, i go for some light tracking at Bukit Heawood/Bukit tun sambanthan (there is no such hill name but i just simply named it).

I was surprise to find the entrance to the plantation have been undergo major changes. There was a huge over bridge across the railway and it can use by motorbike as well.

The railway was expanded and with the new The northern Electrified Double Track project Ipoh to Padang Besar , now there is three railway lane. The works was still going on but almost completed.

However most people (include me) are still use to cross the railway directly because of some strange reason..... here are some picture to share.

Hiking (driving) at Bukit Jugra banting selangor

This is not hiking. Neither was walking. This is driving your car to the hill..

I was going to pick up my family at banting, selangor after weeks of "separated" during the school holiday. As usual i was googling to see if there is any famous hill nearby....Bukit Jugra was appeared the most famous one. Famous not because of hiking activities but paragliding activities.

As i reached banting at 5.00 pm, i still have about 1.5 hours before having dinner with my mother in law & sister in law family. So i decided to venture to bukit jugra to have a look at this place.

After 20 minute drive from the town, i was heading to some sort of kampung road. The surrounding was beautiful and mostly green grass, green plantation and some traditional malay house. I'm not sure whether i head to the right road but there are signboard indicate road to Bukit Jugra... It must be no mistake.

Then i saw the infamous Beggar Chicken place. This is the "legendary" original beggar chicken place. It is located inside temple compound.

Further down from here, we will reach the car park/ starting point to bukit jugra.

As i was driving and still wearing office wear, i didn't stop here...i just drive up! Although i not sure if vehicle is permitted to drive up to bukit jugra, i was neither care much as not much time for me to hang around.

It has nice tar road all the ways to the light house. First stage we pass by the Chinese cemetery area (I guess early morning jogging/hiking might not famous here) then less than 5 minute drive we will reach the light house gate. I park my car here.

I notice there are small road continue from here. It must be not far from the summit as i can see people jogging towards and u-turn back very fast...mean the distance to the end of the road is not far at all. If we were walking to here, i estimated it will take about 30 minute going up and under 1 hours to complete bukit jugra.So this is the easiest trail after all.

Bukit Jugra is really got a magnificent scenery. Its remind me Bukit Broga, semenyih but here the scenery is much much amazing.

First you got a light house to show off(still in operation)
Second you got a Hollywood size signage
third you are standing 400 meter frm sea level
forth you can see the best ever green view in front of your eye
sixth You can see sungai langat (Hulu)
seventh you can see selat melacca
eighth you can see container shipping sailing
ninth you can feel the tender wind
tenth You can choose to have all the above without a single drop of sweat!!!

Evening Hike at Broga Hill Semenyih @ bukit broga semenyih

Today(3-12-2011) i was too bored being alone in house. So i decided to go for a hike...and broga hill was on my mind as i didn't complete it last time when going with my family. It was 2.00 pm when i arrived at the broga hill entrance. It was very hot days (34 Celsius) and i must do it quick to avoid thunderstorm in the evening.

1. From semenyih town,look for broga or university of Nottingham signage
2. or when you saw petronas station on your right, turn left at the trafic light
3. Drive about 5 minute you will meet University of Nottingham on your left
4. Another 3 minute from there you will notice Broga Hill signage at the entrance
5. Opposite the entrance are a mini rabit farm.
6. Pay Rm 2.00 as the parking area are private property.

From parking walk about 5 minute you will see the Broga Hill signage. Another 5 minute you will have a pleasure to know got drinks stall! When reach here indicated its the beginning going into the "jungle".

From the drinks stall, hike about 15-20 minute you will reach the first hill to climb(for me the first hill is the most difficult part of the whole hiking trip). Last time my kids couldn't go up and stuck at the middle of this hill because too slippery for kids. But this time should be no problems as i was alone.......and also alone in this whole area...(Where got people so stupid hike broga at the most heated time)

Once reach the top of the 1st hill, a magnificient scenery already infront of our eye. From here we need to go on from small hill to small hill to reach the peak. Its easy walk all the way from here onwards. Just follow the main path, walk in between the grass.

When i come over to the 3rd hill, i was surprise to see rows of small colorful "flag" at there. From the blogsite info, i never come across got such thing hanging. When i go closer, i was taken a back as it is not normal "flag". It is some chinese ritual mantra "flag"....which normally use at funeral, ritual events or even special religious occasion. The things been put on by chinese ritual people. I also found out got chinese praying "kuih", rice and burning spot...

As i mention earlier, i was alone here and don't be optimistic about hoping to see others trackker passing by, i started feel cold on my shoulder.... chicken out! Add to the "Cold", i could hear praying sound come from somewhere nearby the hill. But I understand nearby got memorial service center like famous nirvana memorial park etc..it must be the echo transmitted via the mountain, somemore it so quite here..

Well, i already reach here, the rain shall be coming and just a couple of meter will be the summit...without thinking much longer i walk towards the summit pass by the "flag" above me....

I reach the place where you need to scramble pass two rock. luckily my "tough" body still manage get it over.

Well here we are at the top of the broga hill. There are signage indicated here is the summit and the height is 400 meter. i quickly take some photo and start going down...(inside my mind i still trouble by the "flag")...

Going down is much much easier but have to be careful as the condition can be slippery. As i went on the afternoon heat and night before that got raining, the surface is just nice for my shoe to grab on.

When i approching the 1st hill, i saw some hiker arrived. You never know how much i relieve after that.. acting cool i smile and say hallo... And the time is 3.30pm.

I was very thirsty as didn't bring water to this ad-hoc hike. Hopefully the aunty selling drink will still be there waiting for me. But it didn't happen. Aunty already went back..

So when i reach my car, it already 4.00 pm. Exactly 2 hours hiking. Once i get on the car and drove off, the rain started...thanks god.

***The sad part of this hiking is too many rubbish around and too many vandalism putting their name on the rock or signboard. If this continue on i believe broga hill will no more a nice place to hike.

Hiking At Bukit Ketumbar cheras @ Hutan Kayu Kayan Negara @ Bukit Seputih

On 07.11.2011 i make a family hiking trip to bukit ketumbar hill, cheras. Bukit Gasing is the most familiar hiking venue for PJ resident and for cheras folks, bukit saga and bukit ketumbar are well known for some light hiking exercise.

I got off late to the place as it was not planned. We reach the place at 5.00 pm. Thanks to some hiking blog information, i manage to find the place easily.

1. From kesas head toward MRR2
2. Bypass tesco Xtra cheras
3. Go under bridge roundabout just before "famous" safari mall
4. Turn to 3pm heading to jalan kuari
5. pass first traffic light
6. At the 2nd traffic light (just before petronas station) turn right
7. About 50 meter later turn right again and head toward ketumbar heights condominium
8. By pass the condominium and you will reach end of the road
9. park your car at roadside or parking area with RM 2.00 fees
10. the entrance is just infront of it.

At the entrace you will find some fruits & water stalls (typical like bukit saga)
At the first few steps, you will find a small temple(pray first ya) you can choice either turn right (longer trail) or go straight (shorter) but more acceleration. As first timer, i didn't notice the right path and go straight forward.

Bukit ketumbar hill is well known among elder residents and that's why you will find most of the hiker is uncle or Auntie with grandson/daughter. So again it is typical another "apek hill". What annoyed me most is some of the hiker bring along the dogs and let them run freely. My daughter was extreme scare as one of the dogs come sniff around and even jump on me..... Again and again typical attitude not respecting others. No wonder i couldn't find any malay hiker here.

As it was raining in the morning, the road are very slippery with muddy all over the path. Its a all way up till you reach the summit where you will see large empty space with all the recreation park facilities built by the residents. Here you can take a break after 30-45 minute hike.

When going back i choose the other road which is longer trail. The residents told me that path can enjoy KL view. So being first and most probably last visit, i take the advice.

After bout 30 minute we reach a well dedicated place for hiker to enjoy great KL view. Its not bad at all where you can view the KL scene...bit similar view like standing at "look up Point" ampang.

When the time we reach exit its almost 7.00pm.

The trail take about 1 hours to 1.5 hours to complete and its a very easy hike. Trail are easy to find as basically one way up and one way down.

The Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE) Malaysia chairman has faced vile accusations for advocating its cause. Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim remains resolute in her crusade for quality education for the country’s future.

ON the verandah of Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim’s home in Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur, a lovely family portrait is proudly propped on a table.

The family of six looks radiant in the photograph taken in December, clad in colour-coordinated traditional Malay costumes.

“Oh, yes, we emphasise Malay culture in our family, despite what everybody else thinks,” quips Noor Azimah when I compliment on their ensembles.

Why anybody would have doubts about Noor Azimah’s commitment towards her Malay heritage is simply because of the cause she’s been steadfastly championing in the past three years.

As the head of the Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE) Malaysia, a group formed in September 2008 by like-minded parents, Noor Azimah has been pushing for the Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics in English (known by its Malay acronym PPSMI) to remain an option in national primary and secondary schools.

With English being the universal language of knowledge in science and maths, PAGE envisions an education system capable of producing students adept at these fields, whose talents and abilities will be crucial in helping to transform Malaysia into a developed nation.

While Noor Azimah herself may not be a famous personality, her strident calls to the Government have not gone unnoticed. She has ensured that the voice of PAGE, even though it’s still a relatively new and small outfit, is regularly heard in newspapers, on television and in various forums throughout the country.

As the face and chairman of PAGE, the mother-of-four and former accountant is outspoken and articulate, ballsy even.

She has received her fair share of brickbats, many from detractors of PPSMI who have labelled PAGE advocates as “un-Malay” and unpatriotic for favouring English over the national language.

“In the beginning, I used to get horrid text messages on my handphone from strangers accusing me of being a traitor. Some words hurled at me were crude, words so foul I never knew existed,” the 50-year-old recalls during a recent interview at her residence in the upscale suburb, where she and her husband, a cardiologist, live with their children.

“I would also get missed calls in the wee hours of the morning. When the PAGE blog was set up, things got worse with accusations towards my children too. I have stopped looking at the blog,” adds Noor Azimah, sounding otherwise unruffled.

Although she and her family members had not been threatened, Noor Azimah was urged to report the matter to the police but she didn’t feel it necessary.

“I think the police have more serious business to deal with. The crank SMS-es and calls have since stopped, but I believe the hate mail on the blog still continues.”

PAGE has since created a portal which requires users to register before proceeding to post their comments.

“I felt quite disgusted having to deal with people with such low morals and bad language. They have failed to understand the issue. We are discussing an education policy – a matter of national interest.”

A few friends have also turned against her since she set up PAGE.

“Some accused me of not being nationalistic; others believe I should just accept the (Government’s) decision. What is ironic is that these former friends have put their children in international schools, abandoning the national school system,” she says.

Although Noor Azimah has not been accused of being an Opposition tool, PAGE has been wooed by them.

“We have been very careful about being associated with any political party. We believe in the civil society making an impact without having to latch on to any political party to be heard. We continue to remain apolitical,” she says.

On the up side, Noor Azimah has received support from strangers and friends alike. But, most of all, her family.

“My family is quite proud of me and they are extremely supportive. Without fail, they keep abreast of developments and speak out at every opportunity,” beams the bespectacled lady with short-cropped hair who looks youthful and energetic.

The medical fraternity at the National Heart Institute (IJN), where her husband works, is just as supportive of the PAGE movement.

“Occasionally, I get to mingle and speak to cardiologists, anaesthetists and surgeons who are always eager to give their points of view.

“In all cases, they urge me not to give up as they believe that the medical profession could be further enhanced if core subjects like chemistry and biology are taught in English,” she shares.

Happy childhood

Noor Azimah studied in Britain before she returned to start a career in the financial sector.

Her parents, both government servants, had enjoyed a British education, too.

“My father was highly sought after in matters of engineering during his time. The many civil engineers he has trained are now CEOs in large companies.

“He believes that engineering terms are best learnt in English to keep up with today’s fast-changing technology,” says the Petaling Jaya-born Noor Azimah, a middle child; her older sister is an architect and younger sister, a graphic designer.

It’s no surprise that Noor Azimah’s father is equally passionate about the cause she now champions. Living a few doors away, the old guy would make time to talk at length to his daughter about the issue.

For a family that so readily embraces English, perhaps it comes as a surprise that her parents hail from Kota Baru in the Malay heartland state of Kelantan.

Now in his 80s, Noor Azimah’s father was a civil engineer while her late mother was a secondary school teacher who taught various subjects including English.

“My mother’s forte was domestic science and she was also actively promoting English back then in the 1950s,” says Noor Azimah.

Growing up, she and her two sisters conversed with their parents mainly in English.

“English, I think, integrates people and it is a neutral language.” (It’s a point that Noor Azimah emphatically emphasises at every turn.)

After her parents got married, they left Kelantan and lived in different states following her father’s postings. Before settling in Kuala Lumpur, the family had resided in Alor Star, Ipoh and Kota Kinabalu.

“I spent my best childhood in Kota Kinabalu. All I did was play, go to the beach, climb trees and ride my bicycle,” reminisces Noor Azimah, who still managed to secure top grades in school.

While there, she studied at an English primary school, and had friends from all ethnic groups.

“There was no such thing as ‘race’ then. A race was only something we ran in,” she says, with deadpan humour.

Noor Azimah continued her studies at St Francis Convent, Kota Kinabalu, before relocating to KL and studying at Bukit Bintang Girls’ School and later, Victoria Institution.

She went on to do her A-Levels in Wales, and her foundation in accounting at Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham. She obtained her CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualifications at Emile Woolf College of Accountancy in London.

Family first

Upon her return to Malaysia, Noor Azimah worked as an administrative officer, and then as an executive assistant to an adviser in the Governor’s Office, in Bank Negara for two years.

Next, she joined Price Waterhouse Management Consultants as a systems consultant. Two years later, she moved to Rashid Hussain Securities as a corporate dealer in equities, where she remained for 10 years before calling it a day. By then her eldest child was in Year One.

“I decided that I wanted to raise the children, and not leave that to the maid or the driver. The kids appreciated me being around, so I guess I must have done something good,” says Noor Azimah, who is also a Certified Financial Planner.

Does she have any regrets leaving a promising career?

“Sometimes I do ... but I hope to move things within the education system with what I am doing now via PAGE,” she says, with obvious pride.

Her two older children, Alysha, 18, and Azrin, 16, learnt science and maths in Bahasa Malaysia in primary school, while her younger two, Anyda, 14, and Ariff, 13, were taught in English.

At home, English remains the family’s spoken language of choice.

“I leave it to the school to teach them Bahasa while I concentrate on English at home. I would like to guide them towards a science career because science is a tool to transform the economy and I would like my children to contribute back to their nation.”

Just as Mum and Dad are doing.

Noor Azimah stresses that she and her husband have benefited from the country’s New Economic Policy (NEP) and therefore, aim to give their children a decent education borne by them and not rely on the Government.

“Slowly, we need to move away from the crutch mentality because although the NEP has helped us, there have been cases of abuse,” she notes matter-of-factly.

Birth of a new chapter

Currently, Noor Azimah is vice-chairman of SMK Seri Hartamas Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Before this she was active in the PTA of SK Bukit Damansara, having risen to be its chairman. It was at this primary school’s canteen that PAGE was born.

Noor Azimah, along with several fellow parents including the group’s current deputy chairman and treasurer (see sidebar “PAGE makers” below), was talking about how they needed to do something about preserving PPSMI, first introduced in 2003.

The debate about reversing the policy first began in 2008, the year that five round-table sessions with relevant parties were organised by the Education Ministry.

Noor Azimah attended the second round-table meeting under SMK Seri Hartamas’ PTA. It was there that she felt the National Parent-Teacher Association Collaborative Council had failed to represent PTAs and parents.

“They had 20 minutes to present views that represented member PTAs but the deputy chairperson basically presented his own stand, which was against using English.”

That disappointment led Noor Azimah and a few others to form PAGE to provide a platform for parents to express their concerns on education matters.

Since assuming chairmanship, Noor Azimah’s learning curve has also grown in tandem with the responsibility. Skills she had to quickly pick up include public speaking, making appearances on live TV, thinking on her feet and being bilingual.

Despite PAGE’s stand to remain apolitical, Noor Azimah has considered going into politics.

“However, the family still comes first and if I join politics, it is strictly because civil society has failed to push forward for a reformation of the education system,” she says.

“I believe matters of education should be left to the educated minority and not the uneducated grassroots. And they should not be used by politicians as a tool to garner votes. Decisions on education should be based on what will benefit the nation and not what young activists and ultra-nationalists want.”

Hiking at Puchong Air Hitam Forest Reserve@Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam Puchong

On 25th September 2011, i brought my kids for hiking at Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam Puchong. We reach the entrance at 11.00am and finished the hiking at 1330PM. Normal tracking for this trail should around 1.30 - 2 hours.

There should be more than one entrance to this trail as i notice the view is different from what i have seen in web blog.

1) From LDP/KESAS head to Bandar Puteri Puchong
2) Bypass IOI mall & TESCO at your right
3) Turn left after TESCO and you will see Citibank/Giant hypermarket puchong at Left
4) Go straight and you will by pass hospital Columbia Asia at left
5) After Hospital Columbia Asia turn left at 1st traffic light
6) Immediately turn left again
7) Go straight by pass residential and apartment.
8) Turn right at the first available right turn.
9) Park your car at the end of the road.here you will see shop lot at your left and residential at your right.

First stage is going through a small rocky hill before you meet the entrance/exit to the trail at your right. I believe it will be better if we go straight further and start from the 2nd entrance/exit.

The different is if we use 1st entrance, not much challenging at all. You will going uphill for about 30 minute and all the way down till the exit. So if we reserve the route, we will have more uphill route.

At the first entrance you will see a big billboard. Walk about 15-20 minute you will reach 1st stop.Actually there is no indication it is a 1st stop. What make me think so is because the area is wide and flat...just nice for a break.

Another 20-25 minute you will reach the 2nd stop where it will be the top of the hill. Disappointed as nothing here. It just a empty space and surround by trees...

Going down all the way. Surprisingly it takes make me more than 1 hours to reach out. You will bypass 3rd stop at a small river before you see "arch" indicating this is a reserve forest manage under UPM.

Out of the jungle and go back using the same route.

Don't forget to buy some fresh coconut drinks at the roadside (near junction).

Anti-Climax hiking experience at Bukit saga or Apek hill or Ah pak hill

On 18.09.2011(Sunday) i decided to hike bukit saga @ Cheras. Prior to that i was planning to hike 2 places in a row. First go to apek hill then straight to broga hill to complete my task. The main reason is because from the info i gather apek hill will only take 30-40 minute (off course i was pay for the mistake later). Beside that Apek hill is said to be famous spot for ah pek (old generation)...so i guess it should be fine to think big.

As i was hiking alone and first time going to find the place, i only manage to reach the entrance at 8.30am.

1. From KL-Leisure mall heading to Cheras-Kajang highway.
2. Bypass abandon phoenix plaze at right and petronas at left, make a exit to taman CUEPACS.
3. Bypass police training center at left and turn right
4. Go straight until u meet a split road. Turn left. Watch out for "Shell station" signage or econsave signage.
5. Go straight and turn left(if go straight will be going up hill road)
6. go straight and you will saw shell & econsave at traffic junction.
7. Turn right.
8. You can park your car along the roadside.
9. Entrance is via Jalan Awana 23

After park my car, i walk through resident area (200-300M) until i saw stall selling drinks. Thats should be the entrance...i guess. Without think twice i just start my hiking without warm up.

This route is good for warm up exercise.Going up but not long distance. Station 1 is at the river bank.

Station 1 to 2
Here i feel some heavy loaded feeling. All the way up and quite long stretch.
about 20 minute from entrance.

Station 2 - 3
Here is the challenging part. Because we have warm up, stretch and now we really give it a push. i stop few time here. At station 3 you will see some people resting.

Actually here is also tough. But after giving it a push since station 2, i don't feel any different during this route. Numb! But the route is quite flat at some point.

Station 4-Station 5
Not difficult and body started to get used of it.

Station 5-Station 6
Relaxing mood.. Station 6 is another big resting area. I thought i have reach the summit here but i saw a signage directing the way to summit is another 28 minute! Its already 60+ minute hike....i feel doubt whether want to go on or not as i was quite tired. However i give it a try.

Station 6 to summit
It's a anti-climax hike! Bit disappointed. From station 6 to summit is no more than garden walk!! If you can walk fast, its only took you 20 minute. Here is almost same as station 6. I wasn't stay long as i was thirsty and bit of dehydration at this point...... i didn't bring any bottle water!!!!

Summit to exit.
Just be careful when going down hill. The slope is dangerous especially after rain. I lost my way during getting out. wasted another 10 minute. When reach exit/entrance, i immediately buy drinks!!!!!

I underestimated bukit apek and make a big mistake when survey for information. Although Bukit saga is a hill, its still stood at about 421 meter (1,381 feet). Total time i took to hike Bukit saga@ah pek hill is 3 hours plus (Initial i thought is a 40 minute hike!!). I couldn't go Broga,getting lost, dehydration & my leg is cramp!

Although hill is not high, but it still make you sweating!

亚洲糖王郭鹤年不爱“糖王”称号，喜欢从事酒店业，听妈妈的话成为世界成功华商领袖！

说到糖王，人们自然会想到郭鹤年，但其实，郭鹤年并不喜欢“糖王”这个称呼，并认为这是假的名气，反观，他透露自己喜欢酒店，因为酒店业不同其它行业，这为服务业，靠的是一般职员打拼，因此，他也从中体会到最大的责任，就是好好照顾自己的员工。

郭鹤年日前接受中国央视《对话》，从中带出其打拼事业的心路历程，打造商业帝国背后的故事。节目开始时主持人问了一句，怎么说得一口流利华语，郭氏归功母亲：“是先母家教的影响，他教我们不要忘本。”

从郭氏谈话当中，了解母亲的一言一语，对其商业及生活上的影响。郭鹤年表示，妈妈在生时时常劝告他，做生意要跑道德的路，赚的钱不要自己崇拜物质。“我记得当时是妈妈80多岁生日，我买了一部马赛迪送给妈妈，她老人家一看脸色一变，说买一台小日本车就行了，叫我把车退回。”

他说，如果妈妈还在，肯定会不断提醒他，做人要谦虚，要继续帮助穷人。

任何生意都有风险 “怕，就永远当穷人”

26岁创办郭氏企业，40岁成为亚洲糖王，曾经在高峰时期控制全球20分之1的砂糖，回忆创业过程，郭鹤年说，当时做了决定，将全部资金投入炼糖业，当时大马也没有其他人经营此行业。“市场最容易的行业不是化工、石油化工，这些有时有人要，有时没人要，那时也未进入IT时代，最简单，最聪明的方式就是，便宜的原糖就可发财。”

他形容，经营糖业大部份时候顺利，惟一次在1963年，基于胆量太大，把现货抓了20吨，也到期货市场注资，原以为市场会涨，谁知反降，资力不足会因此破产，惟，一场事故帮了他。

"当时台风打到古巴，古巴砂糖业大破坏，国际糖价一直高涨，好像老天要帮我一样。"

他提及，做生意90％靠自己的勤奋和智慧，不断收集讯息，研究供求、生产、消费、运输等，看准时机，要快。

他提及，做每一种生意都有危险，怕就走开，如果有更好机会不是问题，可把握第二次，但如果每一次胆量太小，永远是穷人。

同时从事酒店、地产、船务、传媒等行业的郭鹤年披露，无论什么事业，要多做几种，因为有连带关系。

走入中国开拓奇迹致使香格里拉遍全球

郭鹤年与中国关系密切，也在紧要关头给予该国协助！

回想早前，有2名外资部中国官员寻求郭鹤年协助，当时有关官员提及国家缺糖和缺钱，需要30万吨砂糖，而在郭鹤年协助下，首次与没做过生意的巴西经商，成功协助中国买到了30万吨的糖。

此外，在1984年，郭鹤年于北京长安街耗资5亿美元建造国家贸易中心，这为当时外资在中国投资最大项目。“另外，当时我的伙伴林楷告诉我，建国门外有一大块地项目，当时有美国和日本集团竞争，我想今天中国还要依靠这些国家帮助？我们要争志气，不要给外面的人看不起我们华人，我当时刚好有一笔一亿美元现金在香港，因此拿来投资。”当时亚运会，郭鹤年也捐献了北京200万美元。

另一方面，郭鹤年提及，早期到中国，发现该处住宿条件太差，要如何吸引国际游客，加上他看好未来中国旅游业市场，因为该处拥有许多历史文物和古迹，因此在80年代于杭州改建第一家香格里拉酒店。

目前，全球共有72家香格里拉酒店，中国有34家，全球兴建当中有45家，单是中国就有28家。

Pakistan tallest man Haq Nawaz Noor Muhammad in sungai siput??

I was at Sungai Siput yesterday (09.09.2011) for my father medical check up matters.

Reach Sungai Siput at 9.45pm, i've decided to visit Taman lintang famous pasar malam searching some foods. As i aware most stall probably have closed at 9.00 - 9.30 pm, i just wanna give it a try......well it turn out most stall are closed.

However i was given a surprise as i saw something unusual that night.

There was a giant man in front of me....and i almost don't believe what i saw in front of my eye.

I mean, there is a very very tall and big size guys standing among the crowd for some photo taking. This "young man" was about 8feet! For every photo taken with him, we need to give RM 10.00 for "fees". if we just wanna snap a photo of him, it FOC!

I search some info and i believe he is Pakistan tallest man Haq Nawaz Noor Muhammad. I didn't read the bunting information as it was dark. However base on the appearance and the DJ was saying he from punjab, pakistan, i believe its him.

After google it, i notice he first made headline in malaysia on august 2010 where he made pledge for public donation at Pakistan embassy. He need RM 500,000.00 for his treatment.

Hutan Lipur Gunung dato @ Datuk Seremban, Negeri Sembilan

On 06.08.2011, i organize a hiking trip to Hutan Lipur Gunung Dato. Located in Rembau Negeri Seremban.

For frequent hiker, it's a easy hiking route. For me, who been "put down gun" for the past 10 years its a challenging. The route is easy to hike but it test our strength to reach the peak.

We reach the peak after 2.5 hours of going all the way up. Stay at the peak for 20 minute and take 2 hours to go down.

Hiking at Lion Hill, Sungai Siput lagendary feng Shui landmark

On May 2011, I was so eagerly wanted to climb Lion Hill. The last time i climb the hill was standard 6 or form 1. Therefore i ask my brother come together.

We start the trips at 3pm! Park our car at Hospital Sungai Siput, we walk toward the hill without any guide....honestly i even don't know the route. Although we just walk along the palm oil plantation main road, we started to feel some "difficulties" as the sun heat and slope are building up.

We reach the highest level of palm tree route after 30-40 minute. Then we are blur where to go higher as no visible trail. I still remember it just about 50 meter before reach the "ladder" area.. so i decided to open our own road.....

I didn't expect it can be dangerous. The slope was too high. We grab plants roots and small trees. But we couldn't stand straight and making my ankle started pain. if we didn't hold on something, we will roll downside. It just like walking on a big egg and we are at the bottom. We need to move faster and we need to use our hand as much as possible, our leg couldn't move us up much.

We manage to reach the rocky areas ... that's the time we realize our hand are trembling. We walks around the rock looking for the ladder area. Luckily it not too far from where we are.

I believe there is not much climbing activities for some time. Bushes are at knee level and no more trail directly to this area. That's the time i feel unsafe and cautious surround us. I don't wanna meet mr snake or mr tiger or even ms wild boar.......

I try to climb the ladder which can lead to the highest summit. My brothers disagree. But i still go ahead..... I believe it is the same ladder i climb at standard 6...almost 25 years ago. The condition is bad, not safe, shaking and you got the feeling its doing to break to two anytime... When i reach the end of the ladder, i realize i couldn't go up anymore. I need some help if wanna go up...at least some rope to reduce the dangerous. Give up and coming down.

We were walking back to take our car when we meet hospital security asking where we are going. When he hear we just climb the hill, he was laughing but can see at the same time exciting coz according to him, its been some time no one going to climb the hill as it is unsafe. Only some mountain bike activities still going on......

Well i'm just glad we can go back safely. My hand are swelling and i feel my ankle like being dislocated. Luckily day after things are back to normal..

Sungai Siput Lion Hill is not advisable for tracking. Unless you are going in a group and well prepare some equipment to fight the gravity at the slope and the summit.

这是明代著名才子唐寅的一首诗，写于弘治年间，描写了自己对人生的追求境界，但是我们在这里引用这首诗，并不是要介绍这位因为点秋香而闻名于民间的才子，而是他在世时的君上，一位读到这首诗必定会引为知己的天子，大明王朝的第十位君主，明武宗正德皇帝。

他的名字叫朱厚照，这个名字是按照明朝的典制取的。他是明朝历史上唯一一个出生即为皇帝嫡长子后来又当上皇帝的人，是孝宗弘治皇帝唯一的儿子，大明王朝绝对的法定继承人，统治过天下整整十六年的皇帝。

他的名字叫朱寿，是他自己给自己取的。怎么解释这个朱寿的身份呢？他是总兵，是威武大将军，是镇国公，是大庆法王西天觉道圆明自在大定慧佛，同时，还是杂货店老板，是敢和猛虎搏斗的勇士，是到处巡游的纨绔子弟等等等等，我的印象里，似乎只有小说中的韦小宝有这么多的身份。

他并不是一个精神分裂的人，但是他一辈子都这样以两种截然不同的状况生活着。他的一生都在谋求抗争，可惜的是虽然他拥有天下最高的皇权，依然改变不了自己生命的轨迹。他的故事，是由好多喜剧组成的一个大悲剧，不论是对他，还是对这个庞大的帝国。

他的庙号为武宗，这很符合他，因为他很好武，他是真正从内心底把自己看做武人的，虽然这个身份在那个时代其实是卑微的。他的年号叫正德，这更像是讽刺他，因为按照传统的观念，他全身上下似乎找不出一点能看到的“正”的德行。

他常常被人冠以“荒唐”，“病态”这些贬义的词眼，但是他的性格却最像我们现实中的普通人，一个调皮的孩子，一个有着七情六欲的青年人，一个对身边人无比随和的公子，一个对繁文缛节不以为意的客人，一个会体谅下属在雨水中跪地辛苦的上司，一个不忘在祈福时候加上爱妻名字的丈夫，一个对任何事情都有着极大兴趣的聪明学生，一个可以和你挤坐一辆破车的朋友。然而悲剧正是在于，这上面的诸多身份里，唯一没有他最正式的身份，一个皇帝，并且应该是恪守传统道德的皇帝。

明代的大臣们一直把皇帝作为一个神话的偶像来塑造，他们要给万民描绘出一个不食人间烟火，没有欲望，可以无限时间工作，没有个人感情，没有脾气，可以英明的分辨出哪些是好人哪些是坏人，可以从诸多的奏折里聪慧的挑选最正确的那一个的皇帝，当然，这种人根本不存在，明朝的皇帝里最接近这个标准的只有孝宗皇帝，有趣的是，最远离这个标准的正是孝宗皇帝的儿子，这个最类似常人的朱厚照。

他用自己超乎一般人的勇气在执着的与他的臣子进行对抗，并想尽一切办法来戏弄这些看似外表端正正经的道学家。他不想再像他的父亲一样，郁闷的活一生，他要活的快乐，要活的精彩，实际上他几乎做到了，虽然为此付出的代价是很多年的骂名，但是性格如朱厚照这样的人，也许根本就不在乎你对他说什么。昏君也好，明君也好，于他的生活根本无关，甚至在他的心目中，说他的是明君反而是对他的一种侮辱。

那是一个精彩的时代，从最高的皇帝，到读书的士人，都呈现出一种叛逆传统道德的倾向，“别人笑我太疯癫，我笑他人看不穿”这句诗既可以形容唐寅，也可以形容朱厚照，以及那个时代许许多多的人们，而王守仁心学的创立，更是在守护传统的大明王朝的夜空里燃起的一朵绚丽的烟花，从此开始，一个国家伟大的转型时代开始了。

当然，朱厚照根本不会关心这些的，在他临死前，我想他思考的问题应该是：下辈子，我还能做普通人吗？

父亲，母亲和儿子

大明弘治四年九月二十四日下午申时，大明王朝的内廷和外廷像以往一样平静有序，没有任何异样，然而随即从宫中传出来一个消息，让举国上下炸开了窝，这个消息是，孝宗弘治皇帝的张皇后在此时诞下了一个皇子，这个皇子是当今皇上第一个儿子。

为什么生皇子的消息会引起这么大的震惊呢？因为这个消息太突然了，无论是朝臣还是民间，在这之前根本没有听说皇后怀孕的消息，怎么会突然就有了一个皇子？这样一个小细节自然不会被喜欢八卦皇室的明朝人所放过，于是就演变成了后来一场纠纷。

当今的皇帝年号弘治，名字叫朱佑樘，和自己儿子降生所带来的小道消息比起来，这位弘治皇帝出生的经历才叫一个传奇。他的父亲是宪宗成化皇帝朱见深，在年少时就深深的喜欢上了宫女万贞儿，并在即位后册封其为万贵妃，然而问题在于，这位贵妃娘娘比成化皇帝要大十九岁，这实在是一件让人匪夷所思的事情。有人试图这样解释，说当时年少的朱见深碰见成熟的万贞儿，情窦初开，很容易被其勾引，然而无法解释的是，当成化皇帝已经四十一岁时，万贵妃也将近六十岁，但是成化依旧无法摆脱对万贵妃的依恋，在万贵妃去世不久，自己就因悲伤过度追随他的爱人去了。除了情痴之外，实在很难解释朱见深的这种感情。

万贵妃也许是个人品并不怎么好的女人，也许宣宗孙皇后的经历让她学会了如何才能在宫廷中生存，所以她对成化的嫔妃们全力打压，使她们无法获得自己从皇帝身上获得的宠幸。万贵妃曾经有过一个孩子，但是很快夭折，过度悲伤的心情也许扭曲了她的心理。从此以后，一旦听说成化的哪个妃子有了孩子，她就会加以迫害，搞的成化很多年没能有一个儿子。

有一天，成化皇帝让太监张敏给他梳头，梳头的时候看见自己有几根白发，他不禁忧郁的对张敏说：“老将至而无子，可叹也！”张敏一听，心中酸楚，再也忍不住自己的情绪，跪倒在地，说了一句令人震惊的话：“奴才罪该万死，其实万岁并非无子，在西内藏着您的亲生骨肉，现在已经六岁了。”

原来，六年多前，成化皇帝去看书的时候偶尔发现了一位姓纪的管理图书的宫女，在聊了一段时间的天后，发现十分喜欢这个女孩，便临幸了她。像他后来可怜的子孙万历一样，就这么一次，人家就怀上了龙种，还是个儿子。万贵妃听说后就逼着纪宫女打胎，然而也许真的是天意，你不能不佩服，纪宫女在喝完了打胎药以后安然无恙，从后来孝宗的情况来看，也没能伤害到小孩的智商。在许多太监宫女的保护下，纪宫女生下了一个儿子并秘密把他藏在西内，一直悄无声息的养到了六岁。

成化皇帝怀着激动的心情奔向了这个儿子，当他看见的第一眼，就欣赏的叫道：“像我！是我儿子！”随后，这个孩子被立为太子，取名叫朱佑樘，十二年后成为了孝宗弘治皇帝。这个弘治皇帝是大明臣子们交口称赞的明君，因为他温和，没有个性，善于听意见，也还算工作勤奋，这种人简直是臣子们最期待的君上。

在朱佑樘还是太子的时候，就娶了一位北直隶兴济姓张的女孩为妻子，即位后册封为张皇后。从此开创了中国封建历史的一个奇迹，这位皇帝和皇后一直恪守着一夫一妻制，朱佑樘此后再也没有立过嫔妃。有人说这是张皇后醋意太重而弘治皇帝又惧内造成的，事实上从史料来看，皇帝和皇后的感情其实相当不错，两人每天都睡在一起，情好笃厚，一直都没什么矛盾，应该说，弘治对皇后的感情是他不愿意再立嫔妃的主要因素。

然而，一夫一妻制在那个时代是会遭受一些压力的，尤其是朱佑樘身为皇帝，他的婚姻和家庭不仅仅是他自己的家事，还牵涉到国家大事。一个最基本问题出现了，张皇后在与弘治结婚数年后，居然一直没有一个儿子，这让朝野上下急破了脑袋，无数的奏折飞向弘治，要他再立嫔妃，在他们看来，张皇后已经没有生下孩子的希望了。

正是在这种前提下，内廷突然宣布诞生了皇子，自然让朝野震惊。八卦是明朝人普遍的爱好，而八卦皇室更是八卦里面最热门的话题。大家茶余饭后，坐下来，就会谈谈某某人听说的宫廷大内的小道消息，这还算好，到了万历的时代，公然把这些小道消息编辑成书出版发行的都有。当时江湖传言有数个版本，最多的看法是，那个皇子并非皇后亲生的，而可能是弘治皇帝和某个宫女生下的，然后假装是皇后自己的孩子，理由是张皇后这么多年都没生出个孩子，怎么会偏偏这个时候生呢？这种可能性应该是存在的，因为当年宣宗孙皇后就曾经干过这样的事情。不过他们的理由却不太能站的住脚，因为之前几年没有生不代表后来就不会生，何况在生下这个皇子后，过了几年张皇后又生了一个儿子朱厚炜，可惜过早夭折。当然，我们也不排除朱厚炜也非她亲生的可能性。还有传言说，这个孩子根本不是皇帝的儿子，而是皇后为了稳固她的地位从宫外抱来的，这种八卦精神就显的有点过分了，皇朝血统传承这样重大的事情，估计弘治皇帝或者张皇后都不敢拿大明江山朱式王朝来开玩笑。不过这个版本的传言后来居然成了反叛者的口实，看来八卦也是有其危害之处的。

无论外面怎么说，弘治皇帝在看到这个儿子的时候，还是相当的欣喜的。首先他的王朝终于有了一个继承人，按照古代观念，自己也算是尽孝了。其次，自己再也不用承受要求册立嫔妃的压力，可以与自己的皇后双宿双栖，不会再有大臣们说三道四。再次，这个皇子让人看了着实喜欢，两只眼睛炯炯有神，透着一股子机灵，这样的孩子以后必定是一个聪明的人。第四，这个孩子是皇家第一位真真正正的嫡长子，明朝的前九位皇帝中，太祖，成祖，景帝都非长子，英宗宪宗孝宗都为庶出，建文帝仁宗宣宗在出身时母亲都还没成为皇后，只有这个孩子，是真正意义上皇帝皇后的嫡长子，其继承大统的身份之纯正绝无仅有，弘治皇帝怎么能不开心。

立即有人拍马屁指出了皇子出生的非凡之处，这位皇子的生辰八字非常奇妙，他出生的具体时间应该是亥年戌月酉日申时，正好是申酉戌亥这个排列顺序倒过来，在古代这被看成是个大吉大利的生辰，尤其是据说这个生辰与太祖朱元璋有着某些暗合之处。弘治皇帝更加高兴了，他对这个儿子充满了期望，按照明朝制度，为其取名厚照，厚为辈分，照字则是希望他“四海虽广，兆民虽众，无不在于照临之下”，并很快册封为太子。不过在我看来，这个所谓的生辰，大吉大利未必见得，倒是的确暗合朱厚照后来反传统的人生，这一点也许当时是谁也没有想到的。

外面的民众们自然和皇帝不会是一个心情，他们关心的是内幕，是谈资。大家争相猜测朱厚照的身世问题，恨不得发掘出最震撼人心的消息来争取获得头条，正是在这种背景下，围绕着朱厚照身世问题的郑旺妖言案发生了。

现在我每读这个案子，总觉得有些匪夷所思，因为里面太多的东西不符合常理，所以也不禁怀疑是否里面真的有不可告人的内幕被掩盖。但是我个人觉得明朝有很多的书籍在记述这件事情的时候有把读者故意往这是一个冤案的方向来引导的嫌疑，具体的真相我们不得而知，只好尽可能的去猜测这里面的每一个人的目的，以寻求往常理上来靠了。

北京城东北有个镇子叫郑村镇，这里驻扎着明朝武成中卫，这个驻军里有一个军余叫郑旺。军余的意思就是他属于军籍，但是并未从军。郑旺有个女儿叫郑金莲，这个女孩身上留有在右肋出痘时的疤痕，脊梁上还有一处烫伤。提及这一点，可见这在以后的案情中会很重要。我们无法知道具体的原因是什么，只知道在这个女孩十二岁的时候，她被卖给了勋戚东宁伯为俾女，其后被数次转卖，最终连郑旺这个老爹都不知道她被卖到哪里去了。如果不是八卦，也许郑旺也就这样一辈子都不会关心她这个女儿具体在哪里，安安心心的做他的军余，但是发财富贵梦改变了他人生的轨迹。

郑旺有个邻居的女儿听说被送进了宫中，这个消息触动了郑旺发财富贵的神经，他不禁想，自己的女儿下落不明，有没有可能被卖入了宫中，若是这样，有没有可能被皇上临幸？真的如此的话他郑旺岂不是要从此富贵？

什么叫白日梦，老郑同志给我们做了一个最佳的典范，当然做梦是可以的，让人佩服的是老郑立即就去京城打听以验证他的梦想。这是让人最先不理解的地方，郑旺仅仅就凭自己隔壁的女儿入了宫这个消息就能联想到自己被转卖了多少次的女儿也入了宫，还花了大力气去打探，实在不合常理，除了他的神经有点问题这个解释之外，也许郑旺还曾经听说过其他的消息，但是被史书掩盖了，当然，这只是猜测。

郑旺找到在北京的两个哥们，这两个哥们叫妥刚和妥洪，属于锦衣卫的家属，他们帮郑旺联系到一个大内的太监刘山，让他在宫中帮忙打听一下，于是郑旺带上自己家乡的土特产送给刘山，央求他务必要帮忙。刘山的目的自然很容易理解，首先他受了人家的礼物，自然不好推脱，其次，如果万一真的他女儿是皇上身边的人，说不定自己也能跟着富贵，于是就去宫中寻找。巧的是，宫中确实有个宫女叫郑金莲（在我看来也不能算巧，这个名字在那个时代太泛滥），可惜这个郑金莲并不是郑旺的女儿，更重要的是，这个宫女在宫中地位低下，从没进过深宫内院，更别提见过皇上了。刘山自然无法交差，又继续寻找，找到一个叫王女儿的宫女，身份倒符合，但是王女儿说自己的父亲姓周，刘山无奈之下只好以王女儿为原型，向郑旺报告说找到了他女儿，但是现在人家没有机会能见他。老郑发现自己的梦想几乎成真，欣喜若狂，从家里带了无数的土特产交给刘山，让他转交女儿。刘山只好自己私自收下，然后找了些旧衣服什么的给郑旺，说是他女儿送的。

梦想家老郑同志从此开始了当国丈的美梦，事情到这一步也许并不奇怪，因为做梦的人那时候很多（参照后文王满堂那一群做梦者的表演），而刘山的行为也算是符合常理。但是刘山在这个时候做了一件让人觉得不可思议的事情，他主动告诉郑旺的那俩哥们，说王女儿被选到了皇上身边，你们就要当皇亲了！郑旺听说后大喜过望，立即到处传扬。于是郑旺家乡的人都知道老郑家成了皇亲，纷纷前来巴结，送礼的送礼，奉承的奉承，老郑此时已经完全把自己当作一个皇帝外戚了。

过了几天，郑旺盘算着女儿要生日了，又去了倘京城，送了一桌酒席给刘山，要他转交女儿，刘山依旧自己享用，然后找了些自己的东西当成宫中的回赠。老郑愈发飘飘然起来，走着走着路过齐驸马家，便决定进去打个招呼。齐驸马的儿子在家，一头雾水，但是听说此人乃郑皇亲，又不敢贸然得罪，就热情款待好礼相赠。郑旺能和驸马家公子一起吃喝，更加深信自己的身份，于是开始在京城中大肆活动，从此以后，京城上下就开始流传有这么一位郑皇亲的存在。

前面说了，明朝人是八卦的，关于皇太子的身世，大家本来就对张皇后的生育能力表示怀疑，一听说突然冒出来个郑皇亲，于是开始猜测，朱厚照是这个叫郑金莲生的孩子。消息又传到了郑旺耳中，他也不辩真伪，只要是对他好的他就相信，于是就开始以皇太子以及未来的皇帝外公自居。

这个案件第三个让人不理解的地方出现了，郑旺在京城活动了数年，一直都没有人抓他，直到弘治末年，缉事衙门才把郑旺，刘山，妥洪，妥刚一干人等全部抓起来，以冒认皇亲罪审理。审理这个案子的主审人则更加让人惊讶，正是大明弘治皇帝亲自审讯，皇帝自己来审一个小小的冒认皇亲案，引发了朝野上下更大的猜测，大家更加坚信这里面是有内幕的。审讯结果，王女儿身上没有什么疤痕，绝对不是郑旺的女儿，而刘山作为太监干预外事，被处死，但是主犯郑旺和其他人等只是监禁，没过几天弘治皇帝去世，朱厚照登基实行大赦，郑旺居然被放回家了。

这件事并没有因此完结，后续的发展才叫戏剧性。郑旺被放出来之后，坚持认为自己是皇亲，当今皇上的外公，于是依旧四处活动，传播皇上不是现今张太后亲生的言论。更厉害的是，他有一个朋友叫王玺，通过个人关系进入皇宫，在东安门声言要上奏当今皇上“国母”（指朱厚照的生母，他的意思应该是郑旺女儿）被幽禁的情况，这终于惊动了内廷，郑旺等人再一次被捕，几次审理，郑旺都坚持不认罪，说自己是皇亲，当今圣上的母亲是自己的女儿，现在被幽禁。最后司法部门只好判决他们死刑，将其全部处死。

究竟是杀人灭口，还是冒认皇亲，从现在来看，真相已经无人可知了。但是这个案件里面许许多多不合常理的地方的确让人生疑，如果郑旺真的是一个只求富贵的人，为什么在孝宗明明从轻发落他之后，他依然要铤而走险坚持宣传自己是皇亲，甚至主动挑衅内廷呢？这不是自己找死吗？

但是不管事实的真相如何，至少朱厚照是认同张皇后作为自己的亲生母亲，于是郑旺妖言案究竟真相是如何，并不影响这位小太子的童年生活，从小这个孩子就显示出了超越常人的聪慧，而他的父亲又在他的身上寄予了极大厚望，张皇后也并没有有任何对他不好的迹象，至少他的皇太子生涯，比弘治皇帝要快乐多了。

朱厚照的性格的养成，有人说是太监的引导，但是我自己觉得，其实对他影响最大的，应该是他的父亲弘治皇帝。这个宽厚的君主，平时一直在压抑着自己做人，很少展露出自己真实的个性，他对绝大多数大臣们都一直很尊敬，但是我们并不知道他的内心是什么想法。每一个父亲都爱自己的儿子，尤其是自己的独子，弘治皇帝在朱厚照身上倾注的爱是巨大的，所以他不希望自己的儿子活的和自己一样郁闷，于是在朱厚照的童年时代，弘治并不太干预朱厚照的玩乐，弘治自己从出生到六岁就一直被隐藏着培养，六岁之后到当皇帝一直在为自己的生命担惊受怕，当了皇帝之后受制于朝臣，一直在克制自己做一个道德模范，可以说他的一辈子都活在郁闷之中，所以他深知，自己的儿子一旦当了皇帝，便不再是自己，任何事都没有办法由着自己的性子来，于是他想给自己的儿子一个快乐的童年，这是他以前没有的，所以他更希望自己的儿子有。

这一对父子的感情事实上应该很深，有时候弘治想干些隐秘的事情，就单独带着自己的儿子，两个人在幽静的夜晚并肩而行，他们常常会结伴偷偷出宫闲逛，也许到什么地方去感受一下普通人家的父子天伦之乐。有人曾经污蔑说弘治喜欢偷偷出宫是去寻欢作乐，这就有点扯淡了，哪个父亲会在寻欢作乐的时候把刚刚懂事的儿子带着？但是我们能从这些小事里看出一个和史书记载不一样的弘治皇帝，更加性情，更加真实，像一个普通的人而不是一个处处都完美的皇帝。在他的内心里也有对大臣和言官的惧怕与反感，也有他自己生活的追求。有一次，父子俩人晚上又去闲逛，走着走着路过六科廊，就是六科给事中这些言官们平时的办公场所。淘气的朱厚照走到门口，大声的问父亲，这是什么地方？弘治赶紧向朱厚照摆了摆手，小声说：“你不要大声讲话，这里是六科官的地方，现在里面肯定有人在值班，惊动了他们我们就完了。”朱厚照不解的说：“怕什么，六科官员难道不是你的臣下吗？”弘治说：“你不小心惊动他们，纠劾的奏疏会立即送到我们面前。”

从中我们看出，弘治皇帝自己真实的内心大致是什么样子，而小朱厚照也经常能从这些小事里，了解自己这位父亲内心的痛苦和恐惧。这增加他对这些大臣们的反感，从一开始就养成了他不喜欢和大臣合作的性格。弘治经常带朱厚照出宫，也使小皇子在性格上更加亲民，行为上却十分的外向，认识到了外面世界的美好，以后他的生命里，绝大多数时间都不是在皇宫这个牢笼中度过的。

朱厚照的性格狂放，但是对自己的父亲，却相当的恭谨，有时候很能理解父亲的心思，父子两人的感情就更加深了，幼年的朱厚照还算内向，但是逐渐长大后，性格开始趋向好动，喜欢召集许多人在一起踢球，后来又喜欢练习骑射。有人对皇太子的这些做法有意见，向弘治提意见，弘治觉得小孩子的童年应该让他过的快乐一点，现在就压制他会让他心理变态，何况骑射并不是一件不好的事情。当然我们也能从史书中看出某些不公平出来，明朝的皇子爱好骑射叫顽劣，清朝的就叫英武，历史真是一个可以随便打扮的东西。

但是弘治让朱厚照玩，并不代表不重视他的教育，虽然在闲暇时弘治对朱厚照很放任，甚至俩人还经常出去闲逛，但是在教育上，弘治一点都不放松。在朱厚照5岁的时候，就开始选择优秀的官员给皇太子讲课，所选的人里面有王鏊，杨廷和这样的名人。7岁的朱厚照就开始出阁讲学，每日有数名官员辅导太子，加上伴读的有19人之多，大批来自翰林院，而三位内阁大臣刘健，谢迁，李东阳全部要给太子进行辅导。这是一个超级豪华的师资团队。

可惜朱厚照并不是一个喜爱读书的人，他很喜欢学习，不过学习的是他感兴趣的事物。他对什么圣贤之道没有一丝的兴趣，倒是对其他的宗教很有兴趣，而且外语学的很不错，喜欢学梵文和阿拉伯文，喜欢学习音乐。可惜的是，那些臣子们想教的只有他们眼中的圣贤之道，认为太子学习其他的任何一切都叫不务正业，这难免会引起朱厚照的反感。

朱厚照身边的太监们是另一个影响他性格形成的团体，这些人不会阻碍太子做事，也不会和太子讲什么圣贤之道。而朱厚照是个轻视繁文缛节，无视尊卑之分的人，很容易和这些人打成一片。于是围绕着这个未来的皇帝，各个势力开始展开了一场争夺的斗争。

初政的斗争

弘治十八年，孝宗皇帝病重，时年才三十六岁。明代的皇帝多短寿，有人说是因为他们喜欢纵欲，这个说法和上面说孝宗带儿子出去寻欢作乐一样扯淡。明代去世年纪最小的是熹宗，最爱好的事情是木工这种修身养性的活，没听说对纵欲有什么爱好，同样，一夫一妻的孝宗基本上没什么机会纵欲，依然只活了三十六岁。倒是像嘉靖万历这样常年在深宫里不出来的，都活的挺久。另外还有人说是基因问题，朱元璋怎么说也算活到古稀，而宗室里也有活到八十多岁的，看来基因不是绝对因素。第三种说法是在明朝当皇帝压力大，这个就实在不好说正确与否了。还有第四种说法是皇子养育问题，让他们变的太娇贵，而出身并非储君的太祖成祖以及嘉靖寿命都还行，崇祯压力那么大，上吊之前也没听说有什么重病，这个也有一定的道理，权当参考吧。

当年的四月二十八日，弘治皇帝早朝结束，突然感觉到身体有点不行，旁边的人立即将他扶回乾清宫休息，随即居然一病不起。这一天，是弘治皇帝一生中最后的一次早朝。医生给他治理了几天，不见好转，情况反而更加恶化，到五月初六，弘治皇帝已经不行了。

此时的朱佑樘心里最记挂的，是他那个才十五岁的儿子。他太了解自己的这个儿子了，儿子身上每一个优点和缺点，他都知道的一清二楚。马上，这个孩子将要接过自己的位置，成为新的大明皇帝，一国之主。他曾经努力试图给这个孩子一个幸福的童年，让他过开心安逸的日子，现在他突然想到，要让这个孩子转变角色，是否容易呢？

还好，他有心腹的大臣，刘健，李东阳和谢迁正整齐的跪在他床前，老泪纵横的看着他，等着他留下嘱托。朱佑樘看见他们，心有不忍，在哽咽了一段时间之后，才拉着他们的手，陆陆续续的向他们诉说自己的嘱托。

其实，谁都知道他所谓的嘱托会是什么话，无非是什么皇太子年幼，几位大人要好好照顾辅助，把这个国家治理好。要多多教育他，让他做一个好皇帝。要对张皇后好，妥善照顾她的家人，要侍奉好两宫皇太后等等等等。但是这些话，只有皇帝亲自说出来，并且是哽咽着对那些顾命大臣说，才有效果，才能起到作用。而在这种悲伤压抑的气氛里，这种嘱托也更显得庄重严肃让人宁可赴汤蹈火也无法拒绝。

但是弘治皇帝还是多说了几句套话之外的话，他强调皇太子喜好逸乐，一定要在这方面对其多加管教。弘治知道朱厚照若想成为一个大臣们支持的所谓“好”皇帝，就必须要遵守大臣们认为的道德典范，每天规规矩矩的做别人认可的事，而逸乐在明朝皇帝的字典里是没有的。任何的逸乐只会给各类官员口诛笔伐的口实。他明白朱厚照的聪明，有进取心，但是能否在即位后像他老爸安安本本做个老实人，弘治自己估计也实在没把握了。

三位内阁顾命大臣在悲伤中完成了弘治皇帝遗诏，他们将在弘治去世后正式向外廷发布。弘治叫过自己的儿子和妻子，他嘱咐了儿子几句话，看了最后一眼他们母子，终于还是闭上了眼睛，离开他这个唯一的妻子和唯一的儿子。

外廷立即得到了皇帝驾崩的消息，无数的大臣号啕大哭，这并不是礼节上的，而确实发自他们内心，孝宗皇帝在他们心目中确实是一个无法舍弃的好君主，以至于在十几年后，还有无数的大臣为争取他的子嗣延续而不惜牺牲自己的生命来争取一个名义上的认同，当然，这已经是后事了。

内阁向外廷颁布了遗诏，这份诏书除了宣布皇太子即位之外，最主要的内容就是对一些政策进行改革，这和后来嘉靖上台借助遗诏的名义革除正德弊政不同，这些政策主要的倡议者是孝宗皇帝本人，在他临死前一直与内阁计划进行一场改革，主要是针对皇亲勋贵之家接受土地投献，侵占民利等等行为进行限制。可惜的是他还没来得及施行，就已经去世了。后续的工作，就只有留给他信任的内阁大臣来完成了。

五月十八日，朱厚照正式即位，以明年为正德元年。正德这个年号，现在看来，起的真是意味无穷。有人认为，这是大臣们意图以此来劝皇帝先正德行，不过当时朱厚照并没有表现出有行为乖张的事迹，最多也就好玩一点，应该还没有到大臣们用年号来劝谏皇帝的地步。不过明朝大臣起年号的水平确实一般，这个正德的年号，西夏就曾经用过。后来有人给起的天启年号，却忘了有句诗叫“明断自天启”，留给无数的人附会的空间。

一个新的时代又将开启了。

我们先来大致分析一下当时的政治形势。显而易见，这个国家的政治现在是以内阁的三位顾命大臣为主导，他们统帅着外廷臣僚。但是新皇帝的身边，正有一股力量在聚集，他们是一群经常围绕着皇帝的太监。明朝的大臣很看不惯太监，一有太监冒出头就会全力打压，所以他们挑出这群太监里最重要的八个人，称呼他们为“八虎”，比较著名的有刘瑾，谷大用，张永，丘聚等人。大臣们觉得皇帝应该是由自己来控制的，不应该有别的力量对皇帝进行干扰，所以必欲除掉八虎而后快。

那么我们这位新皇帝是如何想的呢？很显然，他此刻正沉浸在父亲去世的悲痛与自己登基做皇帝的新鲜幸福的双重感觉中。每一个人在他刚刚坐上龙椅的时刻，必定是在内心发誓要做一个好皇帝的，这一点几乎毋庸质疑。朱厚照肯定也不例外，但是理想是一回事现实又是一回事，否则中国的历史也不会有成群的不合格的君主出现了。而朱厚照的身上存在着几点不稳定的因素。首先，他反感大臣。这可能是他从小养成的观点，弘治皇帝过分的迁就大臣让这个孩子必定会产生些逆反的心理，我们相信平时私下里父子俩人单独一起的时候，比如夜里出去闲逛的时候，父亲必定会对儿子发泄过对朝臣的不满，从之前我们讲的有一个故事里就可以看出了。还有一个原因，就是这些大臣会强迫朱厚照每天到指定地点听他们讲那些无用的经书。第二个因素，则是朱厚照比较好玩，或者说不甘于一辈子住在这个如鸟笼的皇宫之中。第三个因素，则是因为朱厚照平易近人，所以很多人能聚集在他的身边，给他提意见，这很容易对朱厚照看问题的观点进行引导。这些不稳定的因素会导致皇帝走向朝臣不愿意看到那一面。

但是不管怎么样，起初的朱厚照绝对是尊重并且听命于顾命大臣的。只是这三位大臣自恃顾命，习惯了用对弘治的那一套来对朱厚照，做决定往往咄咄逼人，引发朱厚照的不满。三位大臣里，当时评价“李公谋，刘公断，谢公尤侃侃”，意思是李东阳比较能出谋划策，刘健善于决断，而谢迁善于提意见，他们一开始的和皇帝的矛盾主要在经筵上。所谓经筵，是明朝皇帝的一项日常活动，就是经常要在某个地方（一般是文华殿）召开一个群臣向皇帝讲经说道的活动，如同给孩子上课一样。明朝中后期的皇帝对经筵几乎是一致抵制，因为这个活动实在太过无聊且没有任何意义，连脾气好的如明孝宗这样的人都尽量找理由来躲避经筵，更何况是朱厚照这种调皮分子。偏偏朝中大臣们把经筵与做皇帝的好坏直接挂钩，甚至和早朝一起成为最重要的评判标准。在他们心目中，一个能按时早朝，坚持举行经筵的就是一个好皇帝，虽然这两件事事实上没什么实际意义。

朱厚照勉强能做到每天按时早朝，但是对那个经筵就实在没什么兴趣了，大臣们的劝谏书不停的飞往台前，三位顾命大臣又坚持力请，无奈，在正德元年二月，朱厚照只能开经筵，过他痛苦的明君生活。

值得一提的是，这年的八月，按照孝宗皇帝遗诏，朝廷为十六岁的朱厚照举行大婚，皇后是一位姓夏的民间女子。朱厚照日后的生活虽然荒唐，但是其实劣迹并不多，唯一比较让人诟病的可能就是在喜欢广纳女色上。然而奇怪的是，这个小皇帝对他的新婚妻子没有一点兴趣，不久后朝廷又为他册封了两个妃子，他依然没什么兴趣。事实的真相我们就不得而知了。

正德元年九月，朱厚照和大臣的矛盾终于开始爆发，这件事情由太监崔杲奏讨盐引引起。九月二日，被派往江南督造龙衣的太监崔杲以筹措经费的理由，向户部要求奏讨往年支剩的盐12000引，但是户部拒绝了他的要求，户部尚书韩文认为，祖制规定，盐的收入应该用于军饷，不能挪做他用，其次，皇家的支出不应该由户部拨款。事实上这些理由有点牵强，因为虽然祖制规定了盐政收入用途方面的限制，但是明朝早有不遵守祖制的情况出现，往往有些事情已经形成了一些默认的惯例，现在突然把祖制拿出来压人，难免不引起朱厚照的愤怒。

大臣们抓住了机会开始和皇帝进行斗争，要求停止奏讨盐引的事情。天真的朱厚照并没有意识到他的可怕文官们的力量，他自认为自己是皇帝，对大臣们的奏疏不予理睬，这引发了更大规模的抗争，言官们在休息了很长时间之后，终于有事做了，一个个兴奋的不得了，六科十三道加都察院，几乎所有的言官都参与进行对皇帝的讨伐。朱厚照并没有畏惧，他摆出一副最强硬的姿态，公开发表自己的意见说：“盐引的事情我已经下了旨，你们如果再来奏扰，必定严惩不贷！”皇帝既然如此，内阁也不甘示弱，内阁大臣同样对外公开表示，如果皇帝坚持意见，那么给予批准的特准盐引敕书，内阁将拒绝撰写，所以要求皇帝收回成命。

于是大家就都在这僵着，谁也不让谁，性格倔强的朱厚照再也不想对大臣们屈服，他要斗争一次。户部在大臣和皇帝之间夹着，难以做人，只好提出了一个折中的办法，只给奏讨盐引的一半，就是6000引，这更引起了朱厚照的愤怒，因为从户部的决定上可以看出，既然户部能给，那说明盐引是可以给的，即证明自己并没有错，但是现在大臣们却在这个事情上如同做生意一样与自己讨价还价，自己还是皇帝吗？

几天之后，在日讲结束时，朱厚照留下了三个内阁大臣，继续讨论这件事。还并不太懂政治上讨价还价的朱厚照不解的问他们，既然能给一半，为什么不全给？李东阳解释说，有些太监会在盐引中有夹带，私自买卖。朱厚照更加疑惑了，他认为既然害怕太监会私自买卖，就应该加强监督，如果到时候他们真的私自买卖盐，就应该交给司法部门治罪，这和给不给盐引是两回事啊。李东阳继续解释想要监督调查的难度，总之认为，应该从开始就杜绝了比较好。

当时的朱厚照还太天真，以为事情可以按照所谓的道理来做，而大臣们认为这些道理在具体的实际中根本无法施行，大家就一直在这里分歧着，但是大臣有一点的意思朱厚照明白了，就是他们从内心底鄙视太监，所以对太监做事根本不放心，认为他们带盐引出去，就必定会私自买卖，谋取私利，这种歧视性观点让朱厚照非常厌恶，他带着怒火批评三位内阁大臣说：“难道天下的坏事都是宦官做的？”

三位内阁大臣并不理会皇帝的怒火，依旧拒绝执行皇帝的意见，朱厚照也不会退让。于是三人回去后使出杀手锏，写了一篇联合奏疏，集体要求辞职，大大的将了皇帝一军。奏疏送进去过了半天之后，朱厚照终于投降，传出手敕，说看了先生们的奏疏，我心顿悟，盐引就给十分之五吧。

没有史书记载在这半天里朱厚照是什么样的心情，说了什么话，做了什么事，有没有愤怒已极摔桌子板凳，或者有没有无奈之至暗自抽泣，我们也无法理解当时朱厚照究竟是一种什么样的心情，但是从寸步不让到突然的妥协，这种转变对一个血气方刚正准备雄心勃勃大干一场的年轻人来说，是一种无法承受的痛苦和打击。这件事情是小事，但是它对正德朝的影响太大了，朱厚照对大臣的感觉，已经由反感变成憎恶，他也许再也无法像以前那样，对这些顾命大臣们，对那些言官们抱着一种宽厚的态度，他觉得自己是孤立的，是无助的，他要寻找帮手，要改变自己这种困境。

但是他没想到让他走出困境的还是文官们。通过这一次的斗争，大臣们逐渐认识到皇帝不像以前那么好控制，于是他们很自然的把目光放到了皇帝的身边，那些不和大臣一路但是能影响到皇帝的人，这些人要把他们除掉，这样才能使皇帝绝对的听文官的话，像孝宗皇帝一样。朱厚照身边和大臣站在对立面的，就是所谓的“八虎”，“八虎”这个词，其实是一个政治攻击的名号，朱厚照身边并不只有这八个人，而这八个人的地位也绝对不是最高的，带皇帝游玩作乐的也并不只是这八个人，而且他们也不算是一个什么小团体，为什么要把他们挑出来呢？其实事实的本质并不是因为他们为非作歹的太厉害，而是他们站在朝臣的对立面。

内阁大臣联合九卿集体向皇帝上疏，弹劾谷大用，张永，马永成，刘瑾，丘聚，罗祥，魏彬，高凤八个太监，说他们在平时用各种游戏诱惑皇帝不理朝政，要求将他们“明正典刑”，这个奏疏在内廷获得了司礼监掌印太监王岳等人的支持。据有人记载，朱厚照在拿到这个奏疏的时候，心里十分恐惧，被吓的哭了出来，连饭都不肯吃。

在心中稍定之后，朱厚照派人去内阁和大臣们商量，觉得把他们发配到南京去闲住就算了，没必要处死吧。但是内阁的态度依旧强硬，非处死不可。这些太监们都是一直陪着朱厚照长大，从人性的角度上讲，皇帝对他们毕竟是有点感情，所以处死实在是朱厚照无法接受的结果，他多次向内阁表示希望可以把他们立即发往南京闲住，而内阁除了处死不做他议，朱厚照只好拖着，然后想办法。

外廷和内廷这个时候联合起来，准备绕过皇帝直接逮捕并处死八虎，等事成之后皇帝没有办法，也只能被动同意他们的意见。但是，历史就有很多的意外发生，这个时候，大臣里面却出现了分化力量，吏部尚书焦芳对谢迁十分不满，于是他把这个密谋计划告诉了“八虎”，这八个太监听说之后都大惊失色，准备等死。

刘瑾在这个时候站了出来，本来如果将他们发往南京，也许他们也就接受了这样的命运，但是一定要将他们处死，反倒激发了他们的求生欲望，刘瑾决定凭借自己高超的政治技巧，铤而走险，反正横竖都是死，倒不如去碰碰运气，杀出一条血路。

当天晚上，“八虎”一齐来到朱厚照身前跪下，向朱厚照哭诉。朱厚照觉得在感情上对不起他们，心中不忍。于是刘瑾将王岳将要密谋逮捕他们的事情告诉了朱厚照，朱厚照听后十分吃惊，原来这些大臣太监们可以不经过自己的同意就随便捕杀自己身边的亲近之人，他这个皇帝究竟是怎么当的？朱厚照开始愤怒了。而刘瑾向朱厚照讲明了许多道理，比如王岳，这个司礼监掌印太监，他的地位比“八虎”高，要说引诱皇帝纵情玩乐这种事情，他王岳做的不比“八虎”里面任何一个人少，可是为什么王岳没有受到弹劾，说白了，这其实是一次朝臣联合宦官的政治夺权行动，其目的，不过是想把皇帝牢牢的控制在手中。

朱厚照本来就隐隐觉得朝臣在这件事情上做的有失偏颇，现在一想，确实如此，再联想到以前他被那些大臣们弄的无话可说，身不由己，也认为确实应该整肃一下自己身边的政治环境，否则这个皇帝基本就白当了。不管怎么说，当皇帝当的自由才是第一位的，朱厚照也决定横下一条心，豁出去了，什么明君的美名，后世的歌颂，在他看来，如果要付出自己做傀儡的代价，那都可以不要了。

刘瑾不愧是一个政治高手，深知明朝的权力体制，让内廷站在皇帝的身边，那么皇帝就可以起码做到与朝臣僵持的局面，然后再从朝臣中分化力量，这样他们就可以逐步的获得更多的话语权。

首先是处理王岳，这在皇帝的权力范围内，当天夜里，朱厚照立即下旨逮捕了王岳等人，将他们直接发配，由刘瑾入司礼监，提督团营，丘聚提督东厂，谷大用提督西厂，张永兼管京营事务。这样，内廷就牢牢的抓在了朱厚照的手里。内廷一瓦解，一开始和朝臣联合准备抓捕“八虎”的行动即宣告破灭。

当天晚上的行动迅速而又机密，以至于外廷根本不知道，大臣们以为早上去上朝就可以得到“八虎”被处死的消息，然后他们就可以上疏逼迫皇帝承认诛杀“八虎”是正确的，以后的事情，就是内阁一句话的问题了。

但是事实出乎他们意料，王岳被宣布发配，皇帝否决了大臣们对于“八虎”的处置意见。三位顾命大臣立即表示不满，要求辞职。

这个时候的朱厚照已经不在乎了，内阁的辞职请求在他看来来的正是时候。按照惯例，大臣的辞职请求要经过几次申请才能获得皇帝的批准，有一个拉锯的过程，所以辞职往往成为大臣和皇帝讨价还价的工具，但是朱厚照在这个时候显示了他的个性，立即批准刘健谢迁辞职回家，否决了李东阳的辞职申请。

这个决定有点出人意料，并被广为猜测，为什么皇帝要单独留下李东阳呢？有人认为是朱厚照想要借此分化顾命大臣的关系。这个说法未必正确，不过李东阳的温和性格应该是使其留下的原因，朱厚照更可能的意图应该是，内阁需要一个有经验的大臣，其次外廷需要足够的力量来牵制内廷，而李东阳正是这个外廷的领袖，其他人的资格还太嫩。

这是正德初年一场没有公开流血的政变，孝宗皇帝留下的辅政体系在这场政变后宣告完结，朱厚照巩固了自己的权力，也开始变的更加成熟，这为他后来做很多事情提供了更广阔的空间，他在大臣的权利对他产生威胁的时候，毅然选择了太监作为平衡大臣的工具。而刘瑾，凭借着自己超强的政治能力开始走上明朝的政治舞台，他在皇帝的允许之下，控制内廷，交结外廷臣僚，很快获得了执政的话语权，开始了他三年零十个月的对明朝政府有着巨大影响力的政治生涯。不过他虽然聪明，熟知在明朝争权夺利的要害，但是他没有明白其实同样的道理，如果他刘瑾有威胁到朱厚照权力的时候，皇帝依旧会选择利用大臣来灭了他，而且他的下场绝对比大臣要惨很多，这是明王朝政治体制的优秀之处，也是刘瑾悲剧的根源。

School nasty to weak and non-Malay students

I would like to highlight serious breaches in a public school in Sungai Siput's day to day operations that was brought to my attention and is unknown to many fellow Malaysians, who perceive the school's good reputation. I hope someone can look into the allegations that are raised and throughly investigate in order to return justice to the victims.

First of all, the vice-principal of this school apparently mocks the slower learning students on a daily basis with sarcastic remarks that deeply hurt and affect their emotional well-being. He further 'encourages' students who cannot catch up with the education system to leave school and disintegrate outside.

The principal who is always not around, has had his 'extracurricular' activities published in the local press, but no action has since been taken against him.

The school's officials also abuse their power by prematurely 'expelling' students at will by way of not publishing their names when the new term begins. These students are then deemed to have left school on their own accord and this false information is apparently submitted to the Education Ministry.

The school's teachers are also reluctant and extremely unpleased when quizzed about the performance of their students, with the VP periodically threatening expulsion if the students do not perform to his satisfaction and deemed to have brought the overall results of the school down.

The school also imposes Islamic religious practices on non-Muslim students and tells them to return to China and India respectively if they do not wish to conform.

In view of the seriousness of this matter, I hope that someone can assist the parents of the school to take these official to task, as such things should not be going on in the first place.

I believe the writer should provide the name of the school or at least hint the name of the school....letter like this very hard to prove and most probably create uneasy in racial harmony.

（霹靂‧和豐15日訊）教育部副部長拿督魏家祥說，教育部在處理學校維修撥款方面，不會像以往那樣，每所學校平均分配，而是根據學校的需要處理。

他呼吁地方領導為當地學校爭取撥款時，應先到有關學校瞭解實際情況。

也是馬青總團長的魏家祥昨天在和豐與馬華北霹靂10個區會領袖聚餐時提醒他們，要先處理那些有倒塌之虞、破舊不堪的學校。

他希望區會領導及學校董事部，以務實的方式爭取撥款。

“以前我們叫人家不要干撈，若我們自己做卻干撈，是非常難向人民交代的。”

魏家祥也在會上移交教育部撥款28萬令吉，作為江沙崇華國中更換學校電線的批准信給該校董事長許益鎮。

出席的馬華區會領袖包括宜力區會主席溫達雄、玲瓏區會主席黃天保、太平區會主席李學超、硝山區會主席吳有敬、江沙區會主席黃建生、和豐區會主席禤世培、拉律區會副主席黃種林等。

魏家祥說，掌握國語具有優勢，因為目前馬來語是全世界最多人使用的5種語文之一。

他促請學生不要忽略國語的重要性，而要掌握好國語。

魏家祥週一為全國首相團結杯華小與淡小國語演講與筆試比賽主持開幕後也說，雖然教育部今年實行縮減開銷18億令吉，一些活動被重新編排或展延舉行，但目前到了年杪，主辦一些活動已沒有問題。

他說，教育部在縮減開銷措施中，一些原訂在酒店舉行的訓練，更改在教育部或任何可借用的地方進行，包括在國會會議前舉行的部門會議，地點從酒店改在教育部的會議室召開，以節省開銷。

他說，一些活動如全國性的學生交融計劃也停止舉行，惟校際的學生交融活動仍繼續進行。

I love petronas seasonal festival tv ads. For the past few year i strongly feel petronas ads is the best. Although heard that the budget for all the petronas tv ads are superb huge, I guess its means nothing for a fortune 500 company.

Another thing i thought of petronas ads is Yasmin Ahmad. Prior to her death, lots of petronas TV ads are produced by her. There are talks saying Petronas TV Ads are not meaningful and touching as before...well.. for me it only double duple confirm and acknowledge the Gems of Yasmin Ahmad. Yet life must go on.

This year 2010, petronas introduce a gentle giant name ganesh..... The most touching moments for me is when her moms said " if you not big enough, where you have strength to carry me...." her moms is a disable...suddenly every seem to make sense after all.

此校家教協會主席林家強，於週三（5月12日）上午接受記者訪問時，證實了有關事情的發生。

他說，事情的發生令人出乎意料，為了要保護學生的安全，校方唯有加強保安。

上課時間不准進入校園

他說，從即日起，校方採取嚴厲措施，在學校上課時間，不准許任何人士進入學校範圍，包括家長在內，除非是有公事要與校方接觸。這項禁令，也包括幼兒園，因為幼兒園也是在學校範圍之內。

因為事態嚴重，校方的做法是無可奈何的。他希望各位家長見諒，有任何問題可以直接致電聯絡校方。

他說，有關的嫌犯，已經在當日下午，被和豐警方逮捕，校方會確保學生在校內的安全，希望家長放心。

Sungai Siput got 3 famous. Famous for Peanut, famous for communist history & famous for Samy Vellu!

Kilang Kacang Mee Hiong yuen is one of the oldest peanut factory in sungai siput beside Kacang Menglembu pagoda.. Their famous sales outlet is located beside Masjid Jamek (end of the main road) is one of famous hotspot if you want to buy some landmark souvenir for outstation friends.

Personally i have very much feeling about this brands & company. When i was young, i followed my mother cycling to their peanut plantation(forgot where it located already) to harvest the raw peanut. We got pay for the half day works. This been going on for some years before my mom start work as rubber tapper.

When i was in secondary school. My Grandma used to work in their production factory as "security". My Grandma stay in their factory look after the place. I always bring foods and visit my grandma at the factory. My grandma did show me all the "production line" and what is the process before pack in the plastic bag. My grandma was 70 years old at that time and that's my grandma last jobs before she passed away.

Whenever i go back sungai siput, for sure i will visit their sales outlet to grab some peanut. Everytime i take out the peanut to eat, i will remember the days how i enjoy cycling with mother & miss my grandma.

Although Growing up in Sungai Siput, I never take train at the stesen KTM before. However train in sungai siput is a very memorable things especially those who live nearby the railway, working beside the railway or residents of Sungai Buluh. The Train & railway is part of sungai siput social historical landmarks.

As the main road Wet market is located beside the railway, i use to play nearby whenever follow my father to wet market. I always like to put a coin on the railway and let the train roll over it, then you will have different shape of coins, Its Fun but be careful.

In secondary i used to jogging from taman tun sambanthan railway to stesen KTM as part of the exercise routine. As we roughly know when the train will pass by, it is dangerous but cautious always make things safe.

This road is used to be the main entrance to Kampung Sg Buluh last time...

Last Month When back at sungai siput, saw some project going on beside our beloved Methodist secondary school. I read the construction info and surprise to read that sungai siput will be having the first "proper" hotel. It's name Hotel HM.

Develop by Saujana Kinta, the project consist of 6 stories building, 68 shops lot & 88 unit of hotel suites. By date i believe this is the biggest hotel development in sungai siput. Find out more here.

Currently in sungai siput, the most recommended is smz hotel near Rimba panjang.

I back to Sungai Siput for some bad reason

Last Week I was back to Sungai Siput.

For the past few week, I have a strange feeling that i must go back Sungai Siput as it's been 4 month(Don't remember exactly)after the last home visit. Call it home sick, school holiday, my mom missed her grandson etc..but I just couldn't manage to get the date when I will be go back..

(this is the best "Apam Balik" in Sungai Siput. Located in main road opposite Church in town)

I finally made up my mind that i will go back last weekend. Wife is ok, son is ok and daugther is ok....Everything was in order but suddenly my brother(elder) called to inform they plan to married in mid of January 2010.

Well i guess i'm not prefer to go back mid of december, follow by mid of january and mid of february(CNY). So i decided cancel the trips for december.

However sometime our persistant, intention & passion for something will made things works for the goals..either in good or bad way.

Last thursday I received a call from family saying my uncle(Father younger brother)have just passed away. Thats mean at the end i have to go back also.

I believe if our intention is strong enough, no matters it is raining or earthquake nothing can stop us from doing it...

It's been long time didn't update this blog.

Too much work recently and pending jobs is really scary..(update this blog is one of the pending job!)

1. MCA Ong Tee Keat has became political monster

2. What is Liow Tiong Lai gangs doing now is a MUST in political as either he wait for his head to be chopped or fight for his survival.

3. I hope Wee Ka Siong will not become president MCA one day. He is much alike OTK.

4. MCA is finished no matters who got the battle won. It will take another decade to gain back their reputation.

5. DAP can't deny they are political party potrait hatred among society (just like
BN potrait racial differences). Stepping people photo is one of the lowest moral act a politician can do.(Same as political frog)

6. Credit must be given to Pakatan Rakyat state if government really change the National Civics Bureau (BTN) courses. It's been too long this abuses been going on.

7. Somehow i do agree with Khoo Kay Kim recent controversy. No right and wrong as Copy cat in earlier stage of education do have its advantage too. Even most religion book is going through memorise first before understand it later.

8.How is sungai siput nowsday? Hope can go back soonest to find out more.

When is the last time you visited Zoo Negara??

If we were to conduct a poll among KL folks, the outcome most problably is 5,10,15,20 or even never visit Zoo Negara although stay at KL-Selangor. My last visit is 2 years ago. During hari Raya, I bring my family to zoo negara...specially for my little daughter.

After marriage this is the 2nd time i couldn't manage to go all around the Zoo.( I was a frequent visitor to Zoo Negara in UKM time as I need to go FINAS to do my assignment which just beside Zoo Negara) This time because I have decided to call it a day after feel the rain started to drop little by little.

Overall Zoo negara is still same 10 to 20 years ago. Animals not much change and if you been there before you wont lost your way after 10 years gap.

MCA is in trouble. The worst ever trouble in MCA history. All because of one man...Genius Ong tee Keat.

1. Genius Ong Tee Keat should just keep his word to Resign as president after the MCA Central Delegate voted to pass him a vote of no confident. By doing so, he will be remembered as hero and highest respect for another 100 years old!

Yet he choose to be "Amok". Firing his machine gun all around his own people. He should know that it is his "Genius" mouth that destroy his own political career. Nobody want him leave nor want him out, It is himself who draw the line.

2. Liow Tiong Lai must be brave enough to take on harder role. He must make sure OTK resign to save the whole MCA. If it need him to be bad guy, Liow MUST take up the role. Liow must stop OTK organise another EGM just to penalize the whole Central Committee who OTK claims betray him.

Insider told, All the CC members couldn't stand OTK anymore after the EGM as OTK going all out to face saving, can't let go the power & trying all he have to hold on the power.

Liow is OTK best Team B partner when OTK is MCA Youth Chief. Wee Ka Siong political career is much owe to OTK. Tee Hock Sing is OTK Best "buddy" even prior to his raising. Why these people want to betray OTK? It is OTK have lost his mind couldn't accept the failure.

3.Although UMNO said do not want to interfere. Few of the politician have openly criticize and demand OTK resign. OTK have lots of die hard supporter yet those who against him is much greater.

4. Most MCA members couldn't see what OTK have done to the goods of the party after held the post for the past 1 years. Unveil PKFZ is not helping the MCA image, its only upheld OTK image. OTK have promise to change constitution enable president to be voted by larger delegate and not just central delegate. Until now no news but UMNO have changed it last week!!!

5. Actually public are very support for OTK especially NGO & Chinese Association. Yet the only group can save him is just MCA members.

6. Today MCA youth & Wanita MCA have issued joint statement. I don't know Chew Mei Fun, Yet i very very aware of Wee Ka Siong. If YB Wee Ka Siong became MCA President once day.... I can see much greater damage he can done compare OTK.

I really wish OTK can honors his words. He had a very high respect in my heart for most of the things and i hope he didn't ruin it.

1. I was quiet unexpected Zulhilmi is leading a very low profile and moderate lifestyle in KL. Thinking the career he is venture & given fact his wife also working, I thought they must be steadily settle in KL.

But the truth is they are still renting a house. I really respect him on this point. He really humble and foot firmly every step he make in his life.. Salute to you Zul.

Little Aqil is 101% look alike his father..

2.Little Aqil was very active, not afraid to stranger and very cute. He really look alike Zul. Only much more handsome and cute off course. Hope later aqil can have sister or brother to play with!!! Perjuangan mu belum selesai ZUL!!

3. My Son mix around with others children very fast... especially malays kids. Compare with others chinese/indian kids, my son will very hesitate playing around with them. But with malays kids, he have no problems at all.

Before i left, his wife give out "Green Ang Pau" to my sons & daughter ....don't know why at that moments got funny feeling.(Not because i didn't bring anything to zul house.....where we got bring gift last time in school?? We just go in and makan after say hallo to pakcik & makcik..hahaha..)..Maybe our age is really catching up, all our primary friends have grow up ...we are in breeding 2nd generation already...

But in my eye, i see our friends from sungai siput is still the same person 20 years ago....Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!!

However ong tee keat is the actual loser. At least chua soi lek have succeed pass a no confident vote & get back his membership to show the sacking/punishment by central committee is wrong...and he can stand for party election again after this.

If OTK didn't declare he will left if no confident motion passed, He is actually a winner as in constitution a president can only be vote out by 2/3 of central delegate.... Meaning he keep his status quo and Chua will only a ordinary member.

"Sepandai-pandai tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh ke tanah juga"..OTK is best known for his brilliant language & good orator...This time he shoot his foot.

The next question will be;

A) Will OTK honors his words?

B) Will all the central committee follow OTK step??

1. Right after Genius Ong Tee Keat appointed as Ministry of transport, he declared to go deep into PKFZ controversy and promised will be transparent. At that moment I was wondering why he want to do it?

In politic it is a suicide act. He is doing something which will eventually harm to his party as most of the people involved was MCA strongman. The reveal will also expose the weakest and dirtiest of a traditional minister post for MCA president.

PKFZ is inherit from Ling Liong Sik, Chan Kong Choy, Port Klang Chairman where all is from MCA etc. It is equally rock the whole boat after years of MCA strongest and most powerful minister portfolio. Like it or not, the movement is something extra-ordinary from political.

Why he go so far to risk his political career?

2. Going south into lion mouth

Equally puzzle me is Genius Ong putting himself as State Chief in Johor state. Johor is belong to all his dislike people or against his political people. Chua Jui Ming(Contest as President), Ong Ka Ting(previous president & Johor Chief, once Genius Ong label him as prince), Ling liong sik (Tun Ling have influence in johor also) and off course Chua Soi Lek.

After the party election OTK have know Chua Soi Lek is a major problems need to address. If not because Chua Jui Ming declare to contest president post first, Chua Soi Lek is certainly will announce it. OTK know the danger behind is not how to drive MCA towards Chinese society acceptance.....The real danger is How to get rid of Chua Soi Lek.

Genius Ong is very outstanding in political game (I must admit although not very like to accept it). He do what people normally dint do and he will keep creating revolution to boost the image.

So the game is like this;

1) Declare the PKFZ to let whole world know OTK is transparent, dare to change and will challenge norms..something very much being promoted by the opposition.

2) The truth is this will getting OTK public support. When all public support is in.. he some sort like getting an immunity.

3) The public perception is so important that it will influence MCA leaders opinion.

4) So when the momentum is getting strong, OTK can pull out the sword and start charging to Chua Soi Lek.

5) Chua soi Lek will fight back, yet all he can do is just getting his hardcore supporter & those Ex-leader to fight on. OTK in the other hand got bunch of dynamic, young, well known most important OTK got public support.

6) When OTK being challenge in Vote of no confident, OTK quickly drag on all committee members together. Voting against him is equally voting against CC. If Im the CC members, certainly i have to fight till the last blood to keep my post although it is non of my business in the first place.

7)Not only OTK successfully drag public, NGO, Chinese association, Malaysian and most important OTK have dragged PM Najib in it. How Najib can defend Chua Soi Lek if the issue involve is sex scandal???? OTK have successfully cut off PM interference as most cases happen before.

8) In Feng Shui, OTK must be a revolutionist. If the whole world is peace he will fail. If the world is choas he will perish and become hero!

Genius Ong will survive in this 10 October EGM.
He will kill off his enemy once and for all....including the supporter i'm afraid.

I always bypass KL-KARAK highway when i go Batu Caves using Middle Ring Road II but never use the highway. As i just bought my car in 2009, I'm 100% sure it must be a mistake.

They divert me to traffic department. I tell them the story and they ask me some question. In less than 3 minute they tell me:

Jalong rep fights ouster by cousins

IPOH: A storm is brewing in the Perak DAP again over the Ngeh-Nga family factor.

The latest is the outburst by state treasurer Leong Mee Meng, who complained of being sidelined by the party’s state leadership helmed by two cousins - chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and secretary Nga Kor Ming.

Leong, who is Jalong assemblyman, was reported to have wept at a recent function as she complained of the party being split.

Later when interviewed by a Chinese daily, she lamented that she was not informed of party functions held at the Sungai Siput DAP division in the Jalong constituency.

A source in the party also claimed that branches had been set up by Nga in the Sungai Siput division recently in a bid to undermine Leong.

“The leadership hopes to drop Leong as a candidate in the next general election by claiming that she has lost the people’s support,” said the source, adding that Nga controlled 40% of the branches in Sungai Siput.

The rift between Leong and the cousins, the source said, surfaced after the state party leadership shot down her recommendations for councillors’ posts when Perak was still under Pakatan Rakyat’s rule.

The cousins, instead, put in people “friendly” to them.

“There were also complaints about the allocation of funds when Nga was state education, local government, housing and public transport committee chairman,” said the source.

Party stalwart Lim Kit Siang is also concerned over the rift and has asked for the help of other DAP leaders in Perak to ease the tense situation.

This is not the first time frustrations are building up against Ngeh and Nga for their “overzealous” ways.

When contacted, Leong said she had nothing more to say on the matter.

“What I want to say has been said. I have nothing more to add.”

Ngeh played down the issue, saying that everything was okay now.

“This is old news,” he added.

‘It’s either him or me’

MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat says he will step down as president if his sacked deputy is voted in by the delegates. To overturn the presidential council’s decision is tantamount to casting a vote of no confidence against the council and him.

HE has made up his mind. MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat is making it clear to the 2,377 central delegates at the coming EGM on Oct 10 that he will not stay if his sacked deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek returns.

In an hour-long interview with Ong, he was composed and clear-minded and candid in his responses.

The president also gave glimpses into his personal life and shared how his family members have to bear the brunt of his political convictions; they know he will not compromise on his principles.

Below are excerpts from the interview.

(Following the interview, the central committee decided yesterday to suspend Dr Chua for four years, revising the presidential council’s decision to sack him.)

Source of his energy

> You have been MCA president for nearly a year. Your energy is said to have been sapped by the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) and Chua Soi Lek (CSL) issues. The perception is that you are unable to focus your attention on other matters. Do you agree with this view?

I would say that it is incorrect to say only PKFZ and CSL sapped my energy or time.

In reality, I allocated a large proportion of my time to party work, listening to the grassroots even before the petition for the EGM (extraordinary general meeting).

At the same time, when we talk about party transformation, we talk about initiatives after the March 8 election setback; I mean business.

I have been meeting my team of MCA ministers and deputy ministers on a weekly basis at MCA pre-Cabinet meetings, in addition to the regular presidential council (PC) and central committee (CC) meetings.

On top of that, (I’ve been) going for party programmes like HOPE (Higher Opportunities for Private Education) and TRAIN (Technical Resource and Internship Network).

I am going to have another launch afterwards.

These are programmes producing some positive results at the initial stage of implementation and I need to put in more effort.

In politics, other than routine work, what is more important is to put in some fresh thoughts and have some brain-storming sessions with people from all walks of life, including NGOs, professional groups and the public.

So far, those who follow my itinerary will be able to tell you about the kind of townhall meetings I’ve had.

These meetings are sufficient to indicate PKFZ and CSL are not the only issues on my agenda.

But having said that, as far as PKFZ is concerned, I must acknowledge that I have been burning the midnight oil for the past six months until 2am to 3am every day.

I need to read the documents, stacks of them, even before the audit report is released.

I also read various blogs for the comments or those produced by my officials.

I’ve been hands-on.

> How do you keep fresh every day with your punishing schedule?

I have trimmed down quite a lot. What is important is that every day is a long day for me.

I need to stay alert and fresh.

Sometimes fresh is quite a relative term.

It depends on the workload and the magnitude of the workload.

I make full use of my sleeping hours to have quality sleep.

Once I go to bed, I close my mind; I don’t allow any more thoughts to disturb me.

I maintain about five hours of sleep.

That is very minimal.

When I hit the roads, I take naps in the car or while travelling on the plane.

> Do you observe any special diet?

I have been quite diet-conscious nowadays.

In our kind of walkabout activities, they would not be complete without dinner or lunch.

In many instances, by the end of the day, I get home at midnight, and that is the time for me to have my dinner or supper but not heavy stuff.

Normally, during dinners, I need to talk to people, to address the crowd and thus have no time to dine properly.

That’s the kind of life I have embarked on.

> Your trimming down is due to your workload or not eating properly?

Unconsciously, I trimmed down. When you are under tremendous pressure, you may fall into the trap of overeating. Certain individuals tend to over eat when they are under tremendous pressure.

I experienced that once – I was ballooning – and it really taught me a lesson.

PKFZ

> Do you still have any unfinished task in the PKFZ probe? What are the priorities that should be looked into?

As far as the PKFZ probe is concerned, I would say by now, what is pending is our turnaround plan.

I promised the panel on the business turnaround plan that they would be given extra time to look into the possibilities and the proposals they received.

At the same time, the inception of a high-powered task force chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government is indeed necessary and timely to turn the PKFZ project around.

As you know, this is going to involve inter-department and even inter-ministry collaboration.

For instance, when we talk about the financial restructuring of the MOF (Ministry of Finance) loan, that certainly necessitates the involvement of MOF.

This is indeed timely.

I would like to share with you some of my observations here on the PKFZ.

The priorities now are to ensure the RM1.

5bil identified by the PKA special task force as the amount overcharged or fraudulently claimed by contractors, that must be recovered, and everybody agrees to that.

It is our right to recover the money and people want to see heads roll, of course.

It can’t be a case of crime without the perpetrators identified.

They must be brought to justice and I told the opposition leaders in the House that MOT (Ministry of Transport) can’t play the role of prosecutor, judge and police.

At the same time, since we have submitted all the findings to the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) and the police, now it is our job to continue with the collaboration with the entities concerned to ensure justice prevails.

Dr Chua’s accusations

> Dr Chua has accused you of conducting Umno bashing at closed door meetings. What is your response?

This is something strange to me because when I went around the country conducting the closed door sessions of briefing for the grassroots, delegates and non-delegates, they have the right to ask, to know.

It it is fair to keep them updated and even if it is in relation to the current issues – the expulsion of CSL – I remain steadfast in my belief that it is only fair for us to have a heart-to-heart talk with our own members behind closed doors, especially in dealing with our own MCA family problems.

Why should we do the so-called alleged bashing of our parties? At each and every one of these sessions, I have never noticed Dr Chua’s presence.

I don’t think it is right or appropriate for a politician like him who is seasoned enough to know that it is inappropriate and unethical to a certain extent to make allegations based on hearsay.
As far as I am concerned, I remain issue-centric.

What is right is right.

What is wrong is wrong.

I don’t believe in washing dirty linen in the public.

That explains why I chose to talk to my grassroots behind closed doors.

Just to cite one example, when I had my heart-to-heart talk with non-party insiders like professionals or a certain fraternity, they want to speak their minds.

That is a different form of townhall meeting.

It is only fair to give people opportunities to speak their mind, or to express their frustration, agony or apprehension.

Sometimes it can be mind boggling and sometimes quite hurtful as well.

But it is good to do that and I see no reason why we must resort to the bashing of third parties, including Umno or whoever.

I believe in problem solving and not being part of the problem.

> He also said you have done nothing since you became the president. Your comments, please?

At the end of the day, it is the outcome that speaks louder.

Allegations are made by certain interested parties within their own cocoon, which I would liken to an ostrich burying its head in the sand.

This is because you can see very well that we have been issue-driven.

For instance, the HOPE and TRAIN programmes, the most recent initiative that we set up – the nationwide initiative to help those longing for their citizenship.

It is not today that we jump on the wagon.

Actually, we have been doing that nationwide.

We even have a taskforce to follow up and follow through.

In addition, the specific cases involving foreign spouses, all these we need lots of coordination and hard work.

Things like legislation or even some of the prevailing government policies, we have our policy research and it is not only that we are playing a reactive role but rather in many instances we come up with our own set of proposed solutions after speaking to various social and professional groups.

We have been doing that and of course when Dr Chua chose not to get himself involved, when everyone is invited ... when you choose to insulate yourself, there is nothing much we can do.

Sometimes, (this you can choose to put on record or otherwise) even if he attends, he may attend for half an hour.

Even that, people start speculating; when you leave half way, people will start asking, hey, what is going on? But CC and PC meetings, for instance, when you are part of the team and you make collective decisions after debating; many a times, some of his valuable input we accommodated.

We agree to disagree, that is the name of the game.

After having reached a consensus, then he would choose to speak otherwise at his own press conference.

I think that has somehow or rather ruffled the feathers of other CC and PC members.

> You have placed morality high on your agenda. Why is this value so important to you when compromises are made in politics?

To me, I am principle-driven, even when I was a nobody before I climbed up the political ladder from my early days as a young engineer.

I was brought up in a difficult environment and I was taught the basic fundamentals and principles that once you compromise your principles, it is going to negate the entire purpose of you being in public office.

That was the very first principle I was reminded of by my late mum, my former teacher who has been watching and guiding me.

But nonetheless, it has never been my intention to play moral police.

To say that I am playing moral police, I think that is absolutely irrelevant.

In fact, before the party election last year, I was asked to comment on Dr Chua’s DVD sex scandal.

What I did was to comment on the broad principle of morality for public office holders.

Little did I expect that it would perhaps touch a raw nerve with him.

In fact, I did not even want to comment on the issue specifically.

I believe in adhering to the broad principles and not going for individuals.

EGM resolutions and their implications

> What are the implications of the five resolutions?

The first two resolutions are rather conspicuous notwithstanding that some of the delegates have given me feedback that when they first signed on the petition form for an EGM, they were told that Dr Chua merely wanted to be reinstated as a member and retire as a member.

He made no mention of a vote of no confidence.

That was what the grassroots told me – even last night, when I was at my campaign trail, so to speak.

The first resolution, the vote of no confidence, we know that a simple majority once carried, I will be left with no choice but to bow out and step down.

Anyone who argues that I do not need to do so, that only a two-third majority is required to boot me out, I think that is a great lie.

On Resolution 2, the reinstatement of Dr Chua, we all know that PC made a collective decision on Aug 26 by endorsing the recommendation of the Disciplinary Board to expel Dr Chua.

If he were to be reinstated by a simple majority, this tantamounts to casting a vote of no confidence against the entire PC.

The outcome is clear; the writing is on the wall.

If this were to happen, then by democratic principle, the whole lot would have to go, the entire PC, as it was a collective decision and not a one-man decision.

I am not forcing anyone to do so.

Anybody who abides by the ground rules of the game, in the name of democracy, these are the unavoidable outcomes.

Resolution 3 to reinstate CSL as deputy president is only relevant if and only if he were to be reinstated as a member first.

You can’t reinstate someone as a deputy president of the party before you are reinstated as a member.

These two are intertwined.

Resolution four and five are academic and they are making presumptions.

I don’t think it is fair to make such presumptions.

Never before in any EGM would you be allowed to make presumptuous resolutions.

I play no hard ball against anybody.

I mean business when I want to facilitate the EGM, that’s it.

You want it that way, fine, I’m accommodating.

> What if no simple majority is achieved at Resolution 1, but delegates still want to annul the PC’s decision to reinstate Dr Chua?

Once you overrule the PC, then the PC, including me, as head of the council, all will have to go.

> Even if there is no simple majority in Resolution 1?

Yes.

I am not trying to interpret in such a way I have any intention to issue a real threat.

Why should I in the first place? I am merely interpreting the scenario from the usual practice of democracy.

It is not by OTK standard.

> What if the delegates want him (Dr Chua) to return and you not to go?

They will have to make a choice.

Either this or that.

Sin Chew Daily and China Press came up with four possibilities.

They are entitled to their views.

I wish to see members of the public be better versed with public democracy.

> What if delegates support PC’s decision but they want him back as a member?

Well, you must go back to the resolution.

We didn’t draft the resolution.

It is his resolution.

At the same time, the grace period was granted to him to appeal by Sept 16.

He did not appeal.

Once you do not appeal to the CC for any disciplinary matter, the case is considered close.

You can’t have the cake and eat it at the same time.

In this respect, we are still accommodating the proposed resolutions from those who petitioned for the EGM.

By now, it is clear that the game plan is not to reinstate him but to remove me.

But on a few occasions and last night in Kuala Terengganu, the grassroots were keen to know if I am voted out and he is reinstated, what is the scenario? Some were quick to provide their own answers by saying that ultimately, once the presidency were to fall vacant, that would be filled up by the deputy immediately, not as acting president, but as a full-fledged president.

They try to put the picture together by looking at all the resolutions.

> What if they have no confidence in you as in resolution 1 but they do not want CSL to come back either?

That is another scenario. In fact, this is just like probability as in dealing with maths problems.

The party constitution has no say if No 1 and No 2 are to go; it only says No 2 to fill No 1’s place.

The constitution is silent on that.

The CC would have to convene and play the role to elect a president.

If I may share with you some of my thoughts – certain quarters seem to have promoted a new school of thought.

Both OTK and CSL to go at the same time.

They asked me to respond; I reserved my response at that time.

Today, I should say something.

In the first place, when you want a person to go, you must have some good grounds.

Is it because of the tiff between OTK and CSL you want both to go? I have never had any sex scandal nor participated in any improper or immoral wrongdoings.

Even when wild allegations were made against me on the alleged RM10mil political gift, I lodged a report with the police and MACC.

That was followed by a legal suit immediately.

I must be given an equal opportunity to clear my name.

> Why did you push the PKFZ and Chua Soi Lek issues so far? Some question if this is worth it?

I have no regrets for my action on the PKFZ; when I reflect on some of the recent incidents following the PKFZ issue, I am fully aware that the straight path is full of danger.

The PKFZ is a risk that I have to take as I have put the people’s agenda first.

I walk the talk and I mean what I say.

The very first day when I set foot on the PKFZ ground, early May last year, I vowed to conduct an indepth and thorough investigation.

I strongly believe that I should be guided by conscience on the issue and it involves people’s money.

They have the right to know and recover their money if fraudulent claims have been made.

As for CSL, to me, there is no such thing as personal agenda or personal vendetta.

His issue was not created by me.

The sex scandal, the DVD, all this took place before I was elected president.

He has been arguing that he was duly elected.

Don’t forget that I too was popularly elected, just like the CC and PC members.

When the decision was made to endorse the disciplinary board’s recommendation to expel him, that was a collective decision.

How could he argue that this is one man’s decision? In general, I have an uphill battle to strengthen the MCA in light of the electoral setback last year.

It is either we truly embrace change and reforms or we face a bigger onslaught at the next general election.

It is better for us to take the bull by the horns today rather than to face the harsh reality tomorrow.

This is what I believe in.

Since my childhood days, this has always been my principle.

Of family, threats and SMSes

> Have there been many more threats since you last spoke about it? Are your family members concerned?

Threats in different forms as well as smearing almost on a daily basis.

Smearing and text messages in abusive language, all these I can tolerate.

I make no fuss about it; I am not the type to cry over such things.

It is not that I choose to condone or concur with it, to me this is simply unethical, unnecessary and unbecoming of certain people but I learn to live with it.

> Do you still receive abusive SMS now?

The abusive SMSes are far outnumbered by the messages and e-mails from all over, not just from MCA members, but even from non-Chinese Malaysians, people from all faiths including Christians, Buddhists and even Muslim friends; they told me they offer prayers for me.

> Are your family members concerned about the threat?

I feel sorry for them, burdening them with unnecessary duress.

My spouse and three girls need to live with this kind of political ordeal from time to time.

Perhaps this is the price I need to pay.

My daughter once lamented to me: “It has never been easy to be your daughter.”

> How did you respond to your daughter?

I told her that this is the path I need to take and I’m sorry that I have caused them such inconvenience.

But in the name of justice, I need to pursue my path and when I choose to do so, anyone in his right frame of mind can see that there is no personal gain.

What can I gain from all this? Notwithstanding what my detractors have been saying, that I’m trying to play hero.

What hero? Dead hero? I’m the MCA president and one of the federal ministers.

If you’re saying that I’m playing hero, you’re implying that I’m trying to climb up the ladder.

Where else can I be elevated to? That doesn’t make sense.

The five resolutions
€ TO move a motion of no-confidence against Ong;

€ TO annul the decision by the presidential council to expel Dr Chua;

€ TO reinstate Dr Chua as MCA deputy president;

€ TO revoke any appointments including the deputy president made before the EGM; and

€ THAT no disciplinary action be taken against the EGM requisitionists. Ong said the delegates would be casting a vote of no-confidence against the entire council even if they were to vote only in favour of the second resolution — to annul the presidential council’s decision to sack Dr Chua.

I miss the days we all cycling to visit muslim friends house in Kampung tersusun, Kampung muhibbah, taman orkid, behind SRK methodist etc..

I also miss riding bike & later tumpang mr cheah proton saga going deep into PERLOP & FELDA visiting form six STMAA malays friends..

Now at KL since left UKM very very very seldom got opportunity to do that. Most of the malays friends are not local (KL)... if go visit also can't get the raya feeling.

Looks like our new Balai Bomba is soon will be completed. A brand new building for our fire fighter.

This suppose our friends Tritipal Singh old house.(Beside Klinik Kesihatan) I guess there are building more hostel for police??

The "New Town" of Sungai Siput under development of Team Keris Berhad are progressing slowly yet better than nothing. As you can see below, the whole stretch of the project are taken in shape except the proposed bus station & Taxi station.

I believe it will going to take at least 5 years more to make this area look more like "New town".

Bungalow Lot as high as RM 300,000.00!! In sungai siput, it will trying to compete the uptown status of Heawood Garden.

This is the RM 35,000.00 per unit apartment...It's very colorful. I thought Tune Hotel (Air Asia) is setting up its base in sungai siput!!

More double storey shop lot have been built..RM 250,000 ~ RM 400,000

Tanjung Selera. They are planning to put about 100 stall selling food & fruits here. Quiet impressive if they can do it as Sungai siput folks are really like to eat. Heard that they are not renting the stall but sell one shot..RM 25,000 ~ RM 30,000!!

TF ValueMart has become landmark in Sungai Siput. Their products is still very cheap. Got promotion on every Thursday & Sunday..meaning most siput folks are going there at least twice per week!!

Some shop have open to business..not many about 15 ~ 20 shop lot only. The new things is certain MR DIY shop. I'm quiet surprise when i saw MR DIY Shop at Sungai Siput.

Sungai siput certainly are moving little by little likes a siput toward "development".

This is the second time i visit Sungai Siput Bazaar Ramadhan. Lots of "interesting" foods waiting for you to buy. The only significant changes compare last visit is the increasing stall selling roasted & BBQ style meat.

I believe MDKK should open more ramadhan spot in Sungai Siput. One of the suggested venue is either at TF VAlueMart or Nearby Hospital Sungai Siput. There can put more stall & easy for parking. As most sungai Siput people are like to eat, i believe opening 3 venue in same time won't effected each location business.

1. The vegetable here is very fresh and got variety of choice compare pasar besar at town. And most of the vege here is home grown..(They plant it beside, in front or behind their own house)

3. The number of traders are actually increased compare to my last visit....there are also more China Nation woman selling DVD, toys & even food stall.

Tan Sri Robert Kuok Hock Nien (born 6 October 1923, in Johor Bahru, Johor), is an influential Malaysian Chinese businessman. According to Forbes his net worth is estimated to be around $10 billion on May 2008, making him the richest person in Southeast Asia. He is media shy and discreet; most of his businesses are privately held by him or his family. Apart from a multitude of enterprises in Malaysia , his companies have investments in many countries throughout Asia . His business interests range from sugarcane plantations (Perlis Plantations Bhd), sugar refinery, flour milling, animal feed, oil and mining to finance, hotels, properties, trading, freight and publishing.

(1) My brothers and I owe our upbringing completely to Mother. She was steeped in Ru-Jiao – the teachings of Confucius, Mencius, Laozi and other Chinese sages. Ru-Jiao teaches the correct behaviour for a human being on his life on earth. Mother gently, and sometimes strongly, drummed into the minds of her three boys the values of honesty, of never cheating, lying, stealing or envying other people their material wealth or physical attributes.

(2) Father died on 25 December 1948 night without leaving a will. Following the Japanese surrender, he had re-registered the firm as a sole proprietorship. We went to court to get an appointment as managers, permitting us to continue to manage Tong Seng & Co. The judge said that, as there were two widows, the firm and the estate should be wound up.

(3) We decide to establish Kuok Brothers Limited. In mid-January 1949, five of us met at a small roundtable in our home in Johore Bahru. Present were my MOTHER, cousin number five HOCK CHIN, cousin number twelve HOCK SENG, my brother HOCK KHEE nicknamed Philip (a..k.a. cousin number seventeen), and myself (a.k.a. cousin number twenty). We sat down and Mother said, “Nien, would you like to start?” I said, “Fine, yes I will start.” To cut the long story short, we got started, and commenced business from a little shop house in Johore Bharu on 1 April 1949.

(4) As a young man, I thought there was no substitute for hard work and thinking up good, honest business plans and, without respite, pushing them along. There will always be business on earth. Be humble; be straight; don’t be crooked; don’t take advantage of people. To be a successful businessman, I think you really need to brush all your senses every morning, just as you brush your teeth. I coined the phrase “honing your senses” in business: your vision, hearing, sense of smell, touch and taste. All these senses come in very useful.

(5) Mother was the captain of our ship.. She saw and sensed everything, but being a wise person she didn’t interfere. Yet she was the background influence, the glue that bound the Group together. She taught my cousins and my brothers and me never to be greedy, and that in making money one could practise high morality. She stressed that whenever the firm does well it should make donations to the charities operating in our societies. She always kept us focused on the big picture in business. For example: avoid businesses that bring harm, destruction or grief to people. This includes trades like gambling, drugs, arms sales, loan-sharking and prostitution.

(6) We started as little fish swimming in a bathtub. From there we went to a lake and now we are in the open seas.. Today our businesses cover many industries and our operations are worldwide but this would not have been possible without the vision of the founding members, the dedicated contributions and loyalty of our colleagues and employees, and very importantly the strong moral principles espoused by my mother.

(7) When I hire staff, I look for honest, hardworking, intelligent people. When I look candidates in the eye, they must appear very honest to me. I do not look for MBAs or exceptional students. You may hire a brilliant man, summa cum laude, first-class honours, but if his mind is not a fair one or if he has a warped attitude in life, does brilliance really matter?

(8) Among the first employees were Lau Teo Chin (Ee Wor), Kwok Chin Luang (Ee Luang), Othman Samad (Kadir) and an Indian accountant called Joachim who was a devout Roman Catholic and who travelled in every day from Singapore where he lived.

(9) I would like on this special occasion to pay tribute to them and in particular to those who were with us in the early days; many of whom are no longer here. I have already mentioned Lau Teo Chin (Ee Wor) and Kwok Chin Luang (Ee Luang) and Othman Samad (Kadir), there are others like Lean Chye Huat, who is not here today due to failing eyesight, and Yusuf Sharif who passed away in his home country India about one and a half years ago and the late Lee Siew Wah, and others who all gave solid and unstinting support and devotion to the Company. It saddens me that in those early difficult years these pioneers did not enjoy significant and substantial rewards but such is the order of things and a most unfortunate aspect of capitalism. However through our Group and employee Foundations, today we are able to help their descendants whenever there is a need to.

(10) I have learnt that the success of a company must depend on the unity of all its employees. We are all in the same boat rowing against the current and tide and every able person must pull the oars to move the boat forward. Also, we must relentlessly endeavour to maintain and practise the values of integrity and honesty, and eschew and reject greed and arrogance.

(11) A few words of caution to all businessmen and women. I recall the Chinese saying: shibai nai chenggong zhi mu (failure is the mother of success). But in the last thirty years of my business life, I have come to the conclusion that the reverse phrase is even truer of today’s world: chenggong nai shibai zhi mu. Success often breeds failure, because it makes you arrogant, complacent and, therefore, lower your guard.

(12) The way forward for this world is through capitalism. Even China has come to realise it. But it’s equally true that capitalism, if allowed to snowball along unchecked, can in many ways become destructive. Capitalism needs to be inspected under a magnifying glass once a day, a super-magnifying glass once a week, and put through the cleaning machine once a month.

In capitalism, man needs elements of ambition and greed to drive him. But where does ambition end and greed take over? That’s why I say that capitalism, if left to its own devices, will snowball along, roll down the hill and cause a lot of damage. So a sound capitalist system requires very strongly led, enlightened, wise governments. That means politician-statesmen willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their people. I don’t mean politicians who are there for fame, glory and to line their pockets.

(13) To my mind the two great challenges are the restoration of education in morals and the establishment of a rule of law. You must begin from the root up, imbuing and infusing moral lessons and morality into youth, both at home and from kindergarten and primary school upward through university. To accept the principle of rule of law; then you have to train upright judges and lawyers to uphold the legal system.

(14) Wealth should be used for two main purposes. One: for the generation of greater wealth; in other words, you continue to invest, creating prosperity and jobs in the country. Two: part of your wealth should be applied to the betterment of mankind, either by acts of pure philanthropy or by investment in research and development along the frontiers of science, space, health care and so forth.

(霹靂‧和豐）今日的和豐嘉年華會，是一個震動和豐的大活動。大批民眾大清早就湧入興中中學，整所學校人山人海，車輛也泊滿草場，吸引了約2萬人次參與其盛！

一連2天舉辦的和豐嘉年華會，週日（7月26日）來到高潮時刻。所有購買固本的熱心人士紛紛湧到各義賣攤位購買食品和物品，反應非常熱烈。

在大禮堂內的活動同樣精彩，各種各樣的展覽區及商展攤位吸引人潮圍觀。表演節目如街舞、拉丁舞及“提防怪叔叔”短劇魅力驚人，全場掌聲如雷，場面壯觀。

2天的豐嘉年華會正式落幕，首天開幕吸引了約1萬人出席，加上今日的約2萬人次，整個和豐嘉年華會計有3萬人次參加。
